Different people like different, they have different interests, one of the many interests you might have is writing. I for one love writing. I find it very fun and entertaining. I post my work on a site called wattpad although I haven't got many followers yet, the journey is fun. So what do you people think of this? Would you like posting your works where people can read them for free on a site such as wattpad? Do you even like writing at all? I would love to be published through a real publishing company, not self publishing. It has been my dream for awhile. I keep thinking would I like it or not but in the end I have reached a conclusion. Some day when my writing improves I would like to submit my work to a publishing company and see if it is good enough and hopefully become a published author. Would you like to become a published author like I wanted to? What do you think on other subject such as NaNoWriMo ( National Novel Writing Month) where the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in a month. To win you don't have to complete the novel just get the 50,000 words. It's better if you're not finished after 50,000 words as 50,000 words is a very short novel. Do you participate in NaNoWriMo or Camp NaNoWriMo? Camp NaNoWriMo is similar to NaNoWriMo but takes place in the summer hence the name camp. I haven't tried it yet but to my understanding it's very similar. The main difference is the different month and that you get split into cabins. 4-6 people are put in a cabin. You can pick the camper with you if you want but there's no guarantee you will be with those people. I haven't tried it yet but the cabin think sounds fun. Also every year they change to months of camp NaNoWriMo. This year it is in April and July. So what do you think of all this?

Hi kate! I never thought that I would be entering the world of writing. I am not a professional writer and never in dream to become one. When I came online to find additional source of income, I just want to have a job that I could do during my free time but not writing. I don't know that I could do this thing. But then, when I started with some of my online work, I found out that I need to do some writing in order for me to get some referrals. How can I invite somebody if I could not express my thought creatively so that it would appear appealing to those whom I wanted to invite? That was the start that I need to create encouraging phrases. I also started a blog in order to get more referrals. I also read several articles that with writing, there is a great possibility of having a passive income. I submitted an article in one writing site and was lucky to be published. I continue to write and I know I still have to learn lot of things as I am just starting but I'm sure that with practice and proper strategies, I would be able to gain success on this activity. I haven't tried any contest so far. Have a great day!

Yes, I agree but I do it not for money more for fun and I write fiction so unless I'm published a really book then it's hard to find site where you can write fiction and earn money. Although I enjoy writing deeply I don't think I'm ready to have it as my main job. It's very hard to make it in the writing world. I hope you keep trying. NaNoWriMo isn't a contest, it's a challenge. You have to write 50,000 words in a month because you want to. There is no prize but you can still win if you write the 50,000 words and validate them, you get a purple banner under your profile that says WINNER. When you go into the forums the banner is always under your name.

Yes, I agree with that writing should be something that we like to do. I'm not sure about me but that was the reason why I write as of now. Although I am happy if my article was being appreciated in one way or another. Have a great day!

Just open word and write. It can be about anything from describing a towel to the shade of colour your jumper is, as long as you are writing. Before I would constantly think I couldn't write a book, but now I know I can. Everyone can write a book. It may not be a very long book or a good book but it's still a book. If you just write and read you will naturally improve, notice stuff. This is all the process. You have to teach yourself to write and find out what your doing wrong. Just open word or any typing application and write, you might even be surprised it's a whole lot of fun.

Kate34 has hit the nail on the head. If we do not write we just don't, so write to write. It is the only way and often a good way if we allow writing to give back to us a joyful satisfaction in the doing. Do these sentences make sense? But it can also be a lot of work!

I hope you do. I know we all can even if it's a terrible novel it is still a novel and your writing will eventually improve. Reading as you mentioned is also an excellent way to learn to write. Reading helps you learn grammar, interesting plot lines, builds your vocabulary and so on. A few pointers though: 1. At the start of a sentence capitalise your letters. For example your first word should be: Yes not yes. 2. Capitalise your I's. This is just a rule. You have to always, always, always capitalise your I's if they are on their own. It doesn't matter where they are in a sentence like other letters, you just always have to do it. For example it should be: I believe not i believe. I hope I didn't offend you by pointing out your mistakes.

"50,000 words is a very short novel" Have you tried writing 50,000 words? I did NaNo a couple of years ago and it's a lot more than you'd think: that's actually a 200-page paperback in standard sizes (most publishers calculate about 250 words per page). My main published non-fiction book is just over 30,000 words and it's 114 pages in a larger size... that's a LOT of writing! In my case, I sort of "won" NaNo when I did it - I finished the story but it ended at about 28k words because life dealt me a bunch of nasty stuff to deal with, so I ran out of time. I was just glad that I got the story down on paper, as such!

Yeah, I have well nearly. I wrote 43,000 in NaNo. 200 pages is a lot. Are you sure it's that much? Of course it depends on the size of the page and the individual publisher. I agree with many people when they say a book should be as long as it takes a story to be told but I still find 50,000 a tend short. As a reader I don't like books to be too short. Of course this is only my opinion.

I enjoy writing a lot. Just because I can let my thoughts flow on to paper when I think of it. It' fun to me. When I write about something I know, I can write for hours at a time. It's fun stuff and I learn a lot by reading and writing. TO help make writing easier, I am trying Dragon Naturallyspeaking 12. It's a great program if you write a lot. Will save you carpel tunnel from time to time if nothing else. Thanks!

I tried dragon, I really did but I just can't seem to get it work. I think it's my impatience. I had dreams of doing my nanowrimo on it and being able to talk for hours on it but that dream soon became smashed.

Writing is a passion and the very cool thing about writing is that there are so many styles of writing. I did join NaNoWriMo two years ago but got behind in my goals very early on then was not able to catch up but would try it again. I remember thinking at the time perhaps my thing will be short stories. I like writing and can see an advantage of having other people read your material though that means time is needed to read theirs for that sounds only fair, perhaps.

Yes, writing is indeed a passion, it's my passion and many others passion. Is it your passion too? It doesn't matter at least you tried. I didn't win either but we got a lot further than other who didn't even start. Right now I'm not sure if I like my NaNo novel. It's not completed yet but I have started another which I'm absolutely in love with and can't wait to get into. Short stories are also great too. You should try both out and see which you like best. Remember slow and steady wins the race so you can also write slowly and win. By winning I mean have the novel written. Good luck!

It is my passion yes. I've spent a lot of time on line in forums and in mylot here as well pounding out on the keyboard. Although many people might not call it writing per say I think it is a good exercise. What I would like to do is what you have expressed bring that energy to completing works. Thanks for contributing this to this great topic.

Yes,I have a flair for writing. My mother tongue is Hindi and a large number of my articles written in Hindi has been published in reputed Hindi magazines. After I learned English,I began writing in English as well. Now I have joined three article writing sites,Expertscoloumn,Wikinut and Bubblews.Presently I am active in Expertscoloumn only.More than 20 articles written by me have been published there.I lack time. Therefore despite my willingness to write for the other two sites,I have not been able to write for them.Till now I have written one article for each of the two sites.

It's great that you are writing in what I assume to be your second language. I'm currently living in France and although my French is horrible it has improved from when I got here and couldn't even say where I lived. I hope to one day write in French the way I write in English. When I refer to writing in my head I think more of fiction books that you would see in a shop. I know that is not the only form of writing. Article writing is another form of writing, but for some reason when I think of writing I think of fiction stories. I guess it's because that's what I write and what I prefer writing so I naturally think of that. Good luck with all the sites.

No,dear friend,English is my third language.I am from India and my mother tongue is our national language Hindi. My second language is the language of my state,Oriya.English is my third language.I have learned English in schools and colleges. But writing in this foreign language was almost impossible for me until I joined Mylot. It is on this platform where I learned how to express myself in English. The fact is that I still commit a lot of mistakes, grammatical mistakes. Therefore I prefer to write short sentences so that I may avoid these mistakes. I am glad to know that you are from France. Is French your mother tongue? If it is,then,I think, you can easily learn writing in this great language easily. One thing, would you please tell me if there is any article writing site in French? Why don't you try to write for these sites.Your English is good.I have been told that Bubblews.com is highest paying article writing site.I don't know whether it is true. I also love writing fictions. But currently I have been writing on religion and politics.

I like writing and I used to write articles. I used to even write online. I like to write and has been a ghostwriter for few clients. I worked as a writer for a compant too, but lost my job as the company scaled down. Now looking for another suitable opening.

I am mostly a poet and columnist, but I like long fiction, too; mostly young adult and scci-fi. My problem with long fiction is I run out of steam/ideas/motivation half way (or not even) through them.

I like writing just about as much as talking but I do not like to have to meet expectations of other people and their timelines.

Yes I like writing. I like creating characters and making them come "alive". Nanowrimo is a great way to put a manuscript together. Lots of beginning writers are good at starting a book but they never finish it. NaNo helps you get that step further. Robert J Ray's book the weekend novelist is another way to accomplish the same thing. I'm hoping to participate in Camp NaNoWriMo this April. Depends on how busy I am with my first published book.
