Similar features:
CPU: Intel i5 3rd generation,
Graphics: Intel 4000,
RAM: 4GB,
Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n),
Bluetooth 4.0,
720p front camera,
USB 3.0,
(Surface Pro vs Macbook Air 11-inch)
Battery Life: 4-5 hours vs 5 hours,
Screen Size: 10.6"(1920x1080) vs 11.6"(1366x768),
Storage: 128GB vs 64GB(max 512GB),
Weight: 0.907kg vs 1.08kg
Advantages:
Surface Pro: 10-points-multi-touch display with stylus for improved accuracy,
microSDXC expansion slot,
the first tablet computer that allows serious work (runs the desktop version of Microsoft Windows)
MacBook Air: Runs both Windows & Mac OS,
Thunderbolt port (10 Gbps)
Disadvantages:
Surface Pro: Impossible to self-service; extremely difficult to take apart without damaging the unit.
For $999 I can buy either the Surface Pro or the Macbook Air 11-inch, but not both.
As seen above, there are pros and cons for buying either one.
I don't need heavy computing power, but the Surface Pro will allow me to do everything that I regularly do on a desktop computer, but if I go for the Macbook Air, I will be able to run Xcode to write iOS apps since it is an official Mac OS computer (which can also run Windows).
The Surface Pro is a tablet computer, which allows ease of use and operation, while the Macbook Air is just a regular laptop. However, I am worried that the Surface Pro may turn out to be a bit heavy to hold and operate for an extended period of time while lying in bed, for it weights about 900 grams; about 300 grams heavier than the Apple iPad (depending on which Model of the iPad that are are comparing with).
It is really a tough decision to make; I appreciate very much for any suggestions and advices. Thanks!
