We face the same kind of challenges are our country is debt ridden so badly. It's a bummer, isn't it? We need to spend to keep the economy rolling but we cannot afford to spend and the thought of losing a job will make many people cut back on their spending. Because of two open heart surgeries last year my family is in mega debt and I resigned from my full time job. But, thank God, I do have a part time job and my house is my own pluss we have a farm. Many are far worse off. We have a true saying and this is when the USA sneezes then we get pneumonia

I work for a small NON-profit business. There are 5 people on the pay roll. 4 of us get minimum wage. Of course it would be nice to get a $1.50 raise. But in the process, our prices would go up (we are a bar), my primary income is tips. If our prices go up, my tips go down, therefore I will be making much less money. thank you government for "helping" me again!

this is true nothing is perfect they want to raise the wage and will all due rights they should but it should be done every year or two as well with social security then they would not have to make a large increase at one time thank you for the reply

Inflation will continue regardless of minimum wage increases. We are actually quite behind in getting the wage consistant with the increase we have experienced. Many people cannot live on that wage.

$9.00 per hour may look like a lot of money to a person from a developing country, but in reality, in a developed nation like USA; this minimum wage can hardly sustain a person monthly expenses if he is working only part time,or need to pay housing rent, food, go to college, or even having three meals a day. It just barely enough if you are living with your parent and remain single, no need to pay rent, eat two meals a day, no need to pay personal income tax and state tax, walk to work every day, government pay for your health care cost. People always think it is a lot of money with $9 per hour minimum wages, but taking into consideration of the high cost of living in US and after tax income in your pay check, $9.00per hour can easily become only $6 per hour, which can hardly buy you anything in real life.

$9.00 per hour is a lot of money for a boy or a girl who has a rich parent at home that give $500- $1,000 a month as pocket money, stay in a rent free house while working in a fast food joints. But is practically nothing for a man who need to take care of his family and put food on the table as well as pay rent for having a roof over his head at night, not even mention have to pay income tax, sales taxand etc.. on top of that $9.00.

Raising the minimum wage has never helped because prices rise and we have to pay income and state taxes on that. Maybe that is why he wants higher minimum wages as it would bring in more income taxes. He doesn't think about how many businesses might have to shut down because of it.
