I have written a discussion about a game I have that won't run when it used to run. When I installed service pack 2 it quit working on my computer. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it still won't work. Without service pack I can't play another game I have online. I did a system restore and it worked until I put service pack 2 on my machine.I have another computer with service pack 2 on it and it works on that machine. Does anyone know how to fix this?

It's kinda weird though for the service pack to break the game, some more without any given error by the game it self.
Have you tried re-install the game under the SP2? Or have you tried running the game in compatibility modes which mean not using the SP2 version?

Hi Savire and welcome to my lot. It is weird I did download the service pack and sure enough as soon as I downloaded it the game quit working again. Think I will try one more thing I think I will take the game off the computer and then download the service pack and then reinstall the game and if that don't work I will just not install the service pack on this computer. Without the service pack the stuff on the computer is so different it is just weird. And without the service pack games online and other stuff don't work. Can't download any browser that needs the service pack to work. It is a game that is for windows xp and it has always ran on other computers with xp on them, and it did run on this computer for some time with no problem. I don't download anything from the net for no reason except the service pack.

Hi Savire. I don't know for sure what has caused it but I don't want to keep doing a restore system. It takes too much time. This game I have had for some time but I have had it on this machine since I got the machine. I will try putting in more memory to see if that works. No while installing the SP2 it will work but as soon as the SP2 is installed it stops. But thanks my friend for your help.

Usually the service pack released by Microsoft addressed the security issues and to upgrade certain extension of their API such as new .NET version and VC++ run time and J++ run time. So it should have not break any of the older one since the updates just completes what currently does not exist and patches some files that had security issues. From my experience Windows XP is one of the popular OS that had great supports for 32Bit applications.
For modern games to work they usually depend on the DirectX runtime which happen to be separated from the SP releases. Do you mind telling us your Game Title which is not working after the SP2 installed? Or do you happen to experience some problem during the SP2 installation process for example it's not completed due to certain configuration which prevent the installation to completes successfully?

Hi Starsfield and welcome to my lot. I used to have the game downloaded on this machine and it ran fine until a little while ago. The game is Mahjong I brought it some time ago and it worked fine until I download the service pack and then it just quit. Sorry about the late reply but did a system restore and it works fine but without the service pack downloaded. It is an AMD and it has 512 memory. I don't think it was the machine I don't know what it was but until I figure it out I guess I won't put the service pack on it.

Hi Starsfield. I won't run this machine with the service pack installed so that is out think I will try what the responder said just above you and put in more memory. I had that game installed on this computer while it had the service pack installed so I am inclined to believe that it is just because of the memory issue. thanks for your help my friend.

So, this game broken because those service pack. Okay, then im pretty sure that those game is too old. You have 2 choices here :
1. Let the game running without installing sp, which i think not a good option. Or
2. Install the service pack, and get the latest version of those game. Sometimes game created on past won't run well on todays operating system. And usually the game developer will make patch to fix this compatibility issue. So, check whether it has latest updated version.

did you try cleaning your registry. alot of loading problems are due to something that needs to be fixed in the registry. you also could have a virus. one thing i know to tell you is not to tweak with it too much before you have it looked it at. one thing could lead to another.

Hi MoonGypsy. How do you mean to clean the registry? Can you tell me what kind of things that need to be done to the registry to fix this problem? I am pretty good with computers been doing it for years. I usually tweak my registry all the time but this time it isn't because I did something in the registry. I always tweak my registry and it never has effected the game. I have done the same thing on both computers so I am sure it isn't something I did to the registry. Thanks for all your help.

Hi Strovek. I did a restore point I do this everyday but it still won't work I am going to do as you said and put more memory in this machine. Both computers have the same amount of memory in them I know I built the other one and it has service pack in it. But at this point I am willing to try just about anything. Thanks for the advice my friend.

You could try setting a restore point and install the service pack. If it still doesn't work, you can roll back to the restore point (that is if you want to try).
If it doesn't work, it is more likely the lack of memory. Each service pack will cause Windows to use more memory. I suspect the other PC has more memory.

Try to reinstall the windows that you used.
Or try to check all the drivers and service pack version that you used. Make sure that the same thing you use in both computer.
Or the simple thing reinstall the system with service pack 2 windows directly.
wish you luck.

Hi Microengineer and welcome to my lot. I did install it straight to windows. It worked when I first got this computer for Christmas this year and I had service pack 2 downloaded after I got it and it worked fine. Just stopped working in the last week or so. Thanks for all your help.
