Kids nowadays don't know what a record player is.
One kid asked me "What in the world is a record player?" and I said "It's a machine that plays records." He then asked "What's a record???"
I used to listen to records all the time when I was growing up.
My first 45 record was the song "Deep Purple" by Donny and Marie Osmond.
Before that, I just listened to my dad's old records.
My first record Album was Foreigner's first album.
Every week I got a dollar for my allowance and I bought a new 45 record.
I still have a lot of them, and my husband still has a record player.
I got a program to use the computer to convert records to cd's, but I haven't had time to try it yet.

Oh my goodness you just bought back a great memory for me. I remember record players and funny enough, one of my first 45 records was the song Deep Purple by Donny & Marie Osmond too. I had a big crush on Donny Osmond! My husband has a lot of his old 45 records in storage and my husband loves to collect antiques and just recently purchased an old wind-up gramaphone which you can play the old 45s on! Our children look on in dismay! They have no idea what a record is and when we tell them they look at us as if we are from the dark ages!! Very funny. Thanks for the memory!

Hehehe! I was in love with Donny Osmond too! I had their album as well. Do you remember cutting records out from the back of a cereal box? Your kids really won't be able to believe that! It almost sounds unbelievable to me! But I remember having a record that I played all the time that was cut out of a cereal box. I think it was "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies. That was my favorite childhood song, and I still love it today.

Funny, yes I do remember cutting records out from the back of a cereal box. Donny Osmond back in the day was like Justin Bieber is to the young ones today!! I loved that song Sugar Sugar too and when I hear it I sing out loud! Much to my childrens' disgust.

i remember records. i think most people know about them even if they weren't born around that era. i think people just try to make others seems older than they are when they act like they haven't heard of something that existed.

I personally do not have a record album nor a record player.
However when I was young, I used to listen to my brother playing
them. yes, Donny and Marie, old movie themes, and many more. So,
when my son asked me what is a record, I explained to him. I
will excitedly pointed out to him when there is scene from 1960s
movies depicted the actor/actress playing record player.
You and your husband should keep them well, it may fetch a good
price in the future!![](/Content/images/emotes/wink.gif)
