I Thought Today Is A Holiday

Last Friday, my office mate and I were talking about the activities that we will be doing today because we thought today is a non-working holiday. But upon getting home, I checked the list of holidays and it was stated there that February 25, People's Power Day or EDSA Revolution Day is an observance and not a non-working holiday. Waaah! I'm supposed to be staying at home and taking some rest today but I have to go to work. Well, anyway, still glad that myLot can come with me anywhere I go. Have a great day everyone!

Good day ARIES1973, Before, I also thought that Feb. 25 is a non-working public holiday. As me and my sister are somehow arguing on this. Little did I know that it was only a special holiday wherein, it is only the schools who can avail of that holiday instead. Hence, from now on, I will take note that this date is not a non-working holiday so I will not be confuse next time.

Hi airasheila! Yes because we were used to think of it as non-working holiday. However, the government change it to observance since 2009. Although last year the date fall on a Saturday so we don't notice it. You can check about it here: http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/philippines/people-power-anniversary Thank you for sharing!

Really? I always thought that that day is a holiday. I even remember a couple of years back, me and my friends will schedule some mountain climbing or treks because it is always a holiday so we have longer weekends. That time, it fell on a Friday and it was declared a non-working holiday.

Yeah its not a holiday today for the working Filipino. Its a regular day with lots of people on the street "celebrating" the day and a lot of traffic re routes, buses passing through roads they have never really passed through on a regular day.

That was several years ago. But lately this day was converted to an observance and therefore is a regular working day. Thank you for sharing! Have a nice day for both of you!

For some children, today is an extended holiday for them, they have already had a week off, in our country our schools sometimes have 'baker days' which means the school is only open to the teachers for meetings, term planners etc, sorry you had to work, I looked at my calendar and today is just an ordinary Monday. Mondays are my gym days and getting up early, but I enjoyed today, hope work wasn't too bad for you my friend, have a great week.

Hi wolfie! Yeah, yesterday, Philippine time was the 27th anniversary of the people power revolution in our country. During the previous years, this date was being declared as non-working holiday in our country. However, we just wonder why all of a sudden, the government decided to have it as an observance rather than a non-working holiday. Well, anyway everything went fine and today is another day. Thank you for sharing!

I thought it was holiday too for the working people. Schools have no classes and the teachers but other office and jobs will have their regular working day.

sorry, it only applies to pupils/students. it was a lifesaver for me because there was a miscommunication with the ironing lady. she was able to come after lunch already and did half yesterday afternoon. she works for another family from mon to saturday. then she remembered the daughter works in a school so she will be home to take care of her elderly father today, so it's okay if she did not report there and was able to finish the rest of the ironing here this morning.

It is a holiday for schools only and not for work. Sadly, this has been what was contained in the proclamation Malacanan made at the start of the year. I have with me a calendar that contains all official holidays for this year and Feb 25 was marked "Feb 25 for schools only".

Hi rsa! Yeah I was able to read the proclamation as I even used it as a reference material for an article in one of my writing sites. But because during the previous years, we know that it was a non-working holiday, we are expecting it to be the same. Well, let's forget about it. Let us just be thankful that everything is okay. Thank you for sharing!

Actually, I don't remember about this date last Friday until the staff from the nearby office dropped in and told us the it is a holiday today. It's a sad thing that we are all wrong. Ye you are right, this date should be declared as a non-working holiday in the years to come. Thank you for sharing!

This morning I went to my sister who is a public school teacher and I envied her at that moment because classes are suspended due to the EDSA celebration. Though my sister is at home but she still has some works, she has to encode and print some reports in school. I don't envy her anymore since she is still working at home.

Hi pahak! Actually, when it comes to work, I also bring work at home. Why? One of the main reasons is that we are assigned in a field office and we don't have printer and computer at the office. Imagine that? So whenever we have reports to be submitted, I need to bring it at home and use my own printer. I am not complaining on this because from time to time, we are also receiving some benefits so I was able to buy these tings. It is also good that I return some of the favor to the government. My mother is also a teacher and yes most of the time she brings her work at home. A salute to the teachers! Have a great day!

Yeah sad to say that it is not holiday for us today but students are really happy and enjoy their long weekend. Some of our colleague also look forward that it is holiday today last Friday but our hr keep on telling that it is just for schools. But at least work hours is finally over and another work day was over. Just four left days to go.

I have the same thoughts as well! grrr. We were all supposed to just be at home and "celebrate" the day when our people rise up against the dictator. hehe okay so much for the cliche. I would really love to have a holiday today, but sadly it was only a holiday to the students. I suppose people will eventually just forget about it. It was celebrated as a holiday then... I wonder why Noy would declare ramadan as holiday but not the edsa revolution. no offense met to our muslim brothers, but i think he is into so much politics himself right?

These types of holidays, or natiwonal observances doesn't affect me anymore. I just resigned from work last month and technically, I'm a bum. I'm deciding whether to start my own business or find another job. I guess I'm still waiting for a sign on what to do next. Wish me luck..

Hi friend! It's sad to know that thing. Well, if only I could do it, starting my own business will be my choice. But there are just things that we need to consider and one of that is the capitalization that we need if we are planning to have one. That is why I am trying my best to be successful with my online career and at the same my offline work. Although time will really come that we need to choose. Good luck and hopefully, you could be able to find what you are looking for. Thank you for sharing!

hi aries o h that is sad and a real let down,.You must be in the Philippines or India as here in the US I h av never heard of that holiday .I used to work in the library as extra help and we did not get paid for holidays so of course the library closed for a lot of holidays other companies do not close for. We closed and we did not get paid lol.I did get extra hours for coming and emptying the book drop on the holiday so it would not get jammed up .

Hi auntie! I am from Philippines. Yesterday was the anniversary of the people power revolution which had taken place 27 years ago. This date is important to us Filipinos because this was the day when we were freed from the dictatorship. Well, it was just okay for me if I still have to work. It was just that the previous years, this day was considered as non-working holiday. However, yesterday, it was only considered as observance and therefore only school children were the one allowed to have a day off. Thank you for sharing!

HEllo Aries, I guess it's not the same as the arroyo administration whereas holidays also included for the workers. but nice to know that it's become a bit lucky day for the kids and teens who are studying. besides, it's not just a holiday it's a day were people have expressed their right for speech and threw the dictator marcos into the exile.

unfortunately pnoy change it to observance this year so lucky are those students and school employee. Its actually unfair coz we've been practicing it for non working holiday before. Why president keep on changing holidays, sometimes regular holiday change to non working instead of getting paid in double with those who are still working during holidays like me hehehe. I our work we don't follow holidays...

Yes, it's frustrating, only the students get to have an extra day of the weekend. I think it was the same for last year in observance of Edsa 2, I don't understand why did not just make this a holiday to all
