Facebook....... vast social network and in this vast social network the children below the age of fourteen are increasing with greater pace with the advent of computer and internet finding place in almost every house and increasing mobile among children. But have you ever thought of the presence of some Facebook pages which are inappropriate for the children. Most of the children are on Facebook without the knowledge of parents and even parents might not have the faintest idea about what their child may be doing on internet. So, I have initiated this discussion to speak about the presence of many pages on Facebook which post many adult jokes and adult posts much frequently distracting the minds of children . Furthermore, these posts even find a place in group talks and shares among teens.
Even if Facebook has not put any restriction on creation of account by children, I think it must be make some setting about the sorting of pages according to their content and making necessary that these pages can be only liked if the user is 18+ . AS there are some videos protected on youtube which can be only opened and played if user is 18+..
What are your views , mylotters about facebook pages and children?
Sorry, for my weak english.

Indeed, there are certain pages on facebook that are very bad for children but do you think that putting any restriction to the access of these pages will server the purpose? Most of the children I have seen logs into the site using an id with incorrect details which means their id details have their age more than 18 years. and if FB puts such a restriction then trust me children of this generation are far more intelligent and they know how to tweek the things. Not only facebook should be blamed there are hundreds of other ways by which children get exposed to these things.
Parents need to be aware about what their children are doing by taking some measures such as checking the history of their access and be open to them so that children can actually discuss what they want to. Parenting has become a very tough job now and initial days of bringing shows the result till the end.

Yes, you are right . The far more intelligent children can even deceive the facebook by making ids with wrong information. But , I strongly think that still there must be some way.. Something must be done!! Wait! what about this? So every person has some identity proof and children may have their school identity card. Why not facebook make provision that while signing up, user must provide his identity proof. Although , there are several ways to which children are exposed, but my experience suggest me is that Facebook is distinguishably at top position.
And as far as parenting is concerned, nowadays in many of families parents are digitally illiterate and children are digital experts that parents might be completely unaware about their children.

Yes that would be good if facebook can ask for the identity proofs for all the accounts. In fact I remember around 4-5 months back my FB account got blocked suddenly and when I contacted them they asked for the scaned copy of my pass port when I uploaded the same my account got activated again.

Facebook was not created to cater for children below 18 years old. And since they could just type in a different birthday to make them appear to be in a legal age, it is now the parent's responsibility to check on their children's online activity. I do have kids who have Facebook. And I have access on their accounts. If ever there are posts from friends or relatives that seem to be eff, I immediately block that certain page from posting on my kid's wall.

Hi, you are one of the few digitally literate parent who is aware of internet and computer. But , unfortunately, we do not have many literate parents like you in our society. So, need for the steps to be taken from facebook as I have mentioned in my first comment on harmony , so that our children do not deviate from the right path.
