I have a Ford Ka. It's cheap on petrol, Euro MCAP Safety rating of 4 stars, cheap on insurance and only cost me £895. Absolute bargain.

I drive a honda accord and really like it. I also think toyota, nissan and subaru's are good cars as well

depends very much on your budget!i ve always been a bmw fan but if you haven t got that kind of money you could start with a volkswagen golf.
