which one you choose, herbal medicine or chemical drugs

in my country, herbal medicine are popular, many people who have chronic disease which hard to heal believe and use herbal medicine. they prefers use herbal medicine than chemical drugs..
although, many kinds of herbal medicine not yet have clinical trial to prove its benefit and its risk to the other organ..
people think, that herbal drugs are more natural than chemical drugs...but recently i had talk with my teacher, he said that actually chemical drugs we use, are from herbal too, the scientist filter a substance and make perfectly same substance with chemical reaction..
what do you think about that?
which one you prefer to choose? herbal medicine or chemical drugs?
why you choose that?
and do you agree with my teacher's statement? that chemical drugs was produce based on herbal too?.. thanks you

I do believe in doctor by the way. as I know, the is a major in pharmacology department of medical school which study about herbal medicine. all of the medicine we used today have been invented from herbs. the active compound was isolated, then we use it as medicine. Herbs consist of many compound, beside the active compound, there are also harmful compounds that usually causing the reverse effect. These compounds must be removed before we use it for therapy. But when we see an alternative clinic, who offers herbal medicine without doctor's prescribe, we must be careful because as I told you before, that herbal medicine doesn't have clinical study about the harmful compound.

hmm.. is it true that herbal medicine have no side effect?
i doubt that , because in my country, herbal medicine are popular, but newer research has proven that many herbal medicine isn't pure but already mix with chemical coumpound, and the most dangerous thing about that, there are no regulation to control quality of herbal medicine in our country, how about your country?
