Today was my second day with working as a backup cashier. Basically back up, when they need me to the front for cashiering I'm supposed to go up and help out. Well anyways, first of all I kept telling these people, um I have no 4 digit pin to sign me in to check people out. I've been telling these people this like forever. I'm trained and everything, but no 4 digit pin. People just gave up they didn't want to help me get my pin. So I was like stop asking me then to go up there to help out if I don't have a 4 digit pin and you don't want to help me get one. So anyways, I finally got it. It took some time though, because when I tried to get my pin, it wouldn't let me create it. It kept saying not authorized to check people out. Okay I've been trained to check people out but I'm not authorized really.Lol. So anyway, had to get an LOD to authorize me to check out. So finally got authorized and got my pin.
Then I was sent to the front. Omg I was so nervous, cause this was like my second day ever doing cashiering and I was all by myself. I only was trained for like 2 hours. In my opinion, not enough time, but oh well, and I was told it was basically pretty much self explanatory. The screen will tell you everything to do. So I was like okayyyyyy.......
First customer comes up, I'm like gee how do you get the belt moving. Lol, I'm waving my hand along the sensor nothing happens. The poor customer looked frustrated and and just moved his stuff up for me. Lol so I'm scanning the items and then I forgot how to do total. Okay, duh the total sign on the keyboard. I guess this customer figured I was new, well yeah new at the cash register. Lol. So, anyway, I rang through 3 customers and still couldn't get the belt working. Customers walking off upset after they got rang up. Finally when I was working on my last customer, a team member behind me asked if I needed help. Lol, I was like yeah, how do you get the belt moving. Lol. Then she's like oh its this button right here. Lol, right below the belt and then it moves. Omg, seriously. Lol, anyway I think I did pretty good for my 2 day as a cashier. You get scored after every guest. You get a score of either an "R" or a "G". "R" means you're too slow "G" means you're fast and way to go. So for my second day as cashier, I got one "G" yea, and the rest was "Rs" I'm happy with my one "G" so I'll take it. Lol. So there goes my day as working as a back up cashier. Fun Fun Fun. Now the manager was like you have no excuse next time, so you better be answering those calls for back up cashier. Lol. (Meaning now I can't say I don't have a pin, cause now I do. Darn.) I'm happy though I actually like doing register, that is what I originally wanted to do, but I'm happy with what they hired me for as a price accuracy associate and back up cashier, so I still get to ring up customers sometimes.
Oh, and well I need to start learning to call customers guest and not customers. Lol, that's what we call them at Target. You're a guest and not a customer.

Yep, you are known as guest. We are told to treat guest like they are in our home. So I try to do that every day. People enjoy coming to spend time at my house lol, so....lol I try to get guest to have a great experience while at Target.
Yeah, I feel with more practice and the more I do back up cashier, I will get faster. I'm sure they don't expect me to be fast right away. At least I hope not. Price accuracy is interesting and with all the changes that happened today, hopefully it will be more fun for me. I'm hoping.

Here when you are training for a cashier, they have a more experienced cashier with you showing you the ropes, but then Target has not been opened yet. I guess they are waiting for the store to disappear. Glad you figured out everything. I would be nervous too and would start pressing buttons, things would fly off the counter, and then I would look for the manual.
It was easier in the old days back in the 60s. Then they had schools that trained cashiers, but not now. Now you have to learn it on your own.
Good thing you got the pin.

I will remember that the next time I go to Target. I am a guest, not a customer. Sounds like you are doing fine. Just need some experience and you are well on your way. Do like the managers and are they treating you okay?

For the past few days, me and the other team members were getting yelled at a lot for work not getting done. Especially yesterday. I was ready to give up after yesterday and just not care any more. But now they are making some changes to how things are done. And how it was explained, its a good idea and I like it. Basically I will be responsible for finishing my own work that I am assigned and I will also have documentation on what I had finished. Plus they hired another team member so we got some help. But she's got to learn the ropes and all first and then hopefully she'll be able to pick up the speed as well. Today was her first day. So I'm not expecting much. But since I been there a bit. I should be getting faster. Yesterday we got yelled at by the lady no one likes. But I guess really it wasn't yelling she's just doing her job. So, I understand in a way. Managers have been good to us so far, but for now they really want us to finish our work and stuff. So, with new changes I hope things get done and they can get off our backs for a while.
But yeah I think with more practice, I'll be better. It was just my second day. I didn't expect much and I don't think they did either.

Mylot is being weird again this evening. It sounds like you are doing okay then. As long as you get your work done and are not over worked that is a good then. Good luck to you!

Yeah, I know the saying that every master was once a disaster. So while you made a lot of mistakes and slow in the beginning, you will be able to handle it with ease after you’re used to it. With some practice and experience, you came to be skilled cashier. It sounds like you have become better and better each days. Good luck for you.
