Why is it that a president cannot run for a second consecutive time and yet senators, congressmen, governors, assemblymen amd the likes can run up to third consecutive time.why cant comelec make ruling that in all government positions should only be given one term to give way to other hopeful politicians.i bet a lot will benefit from this and not just the few crazy politicians.

The previous constitution was patterned after that of the US wherein a president has a 4-year term with one chance at re-election however, it was amended to a 6-year term for a president without any re-election. Perhaps, it was to avoid another scenario similar to the Marcos administration. You've got a point there regarding the elected positions however these politicians always have a way like being congressman for this term then governor for another term and back to being congressman until finally the senate. We see the same old faces if not the wives or sons or daughters. It is a merry-go-round but in the end the the people remain the losers.

Hello Johndur, As for being President of the Philippines, it is by law that he can only run for two consecutive terms. I think it's the fault of the royalty of the sultanate and the these royal families. lets hope that we get the change to help other people in informing them who is the righ tfor the position or not.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Yes u are absolutely right, even i feel the same as u that a president should never be deprived of an opportunity to run for the elections for the second time because in the process we might be losing out a bright candidate and even if they had satisfying term with the public then it would be a failure for all of us.
What say?
