Hello Lotters,
Am not so sure on what to think anymore. One moment we were in good terms and Alliance with Malaysia because of the Disputed islands in both Spratleys and Scarborough shoal. now, at the height of that these group of armed men that came from Sulu said that they want to have their claim now.
I think it's out of line, the muslim rebels should have spent it in taking that when they were strength in numbers. how could they do it now when they have a treaty with the Phil Govt. what a pathetic use of abuse. they should have aired that even in the media instead of making a scene like, now we are having troubled relations with the malaysian govt because of this.
they should blame that on their Ancestral Sultan who allowed it to be rented in the First place.
their just making it worse, there's always money involves in this. besides, i don't have confidence on their Moro Royalty if they get to have Sabbah again. it's way too late i believed, but talks should be established on this one...i just don't feel like agreeing with our moslem brothers for these acts.
What's your view on this? it's ridiculous. i bet if they get to have sabah, they will break peace treaty with the Phil Govt and completely take Mindanao with their hands and declared it as independent state or Nation.

I think the kirams made the wrong decision.they should have the government first before they made a move.
It would be much effective if their claims is backed by the Philippine government.but they just bypassed the government.

Hello Johndur, I think the fact that the government failed to support their claim has prompted them to create the MNLF faction in mindanao. Marcos made a huge failure out of this and now has prompted this generation to claim the islands again on their own accord. i don't think kiram made the right move. they should have just let it go but they only made things worse

You know what is worse Malaysia is still paying their family the rent, for sure it sounds like a lifetime rent. The people in Sabah, Even though they were Filipinos, they identify as Malaysians, In fact many of their athletes proudly represented Malaysia in olympics. The real reason why they cant win Sabah is that the people there themselves chosen to be Malaysians, There is a voting in the past where the people of Sabah voted whether they wanted to be a part of the Philippines or Malaysia and they chose to join Malaysia, they did that durng a time where Philippines have a better economy.

The people in Sabah, Even though they were Filipinos, they identify as Malaysians I wish to put the record straight here, the Filipinos who flock to Sabah by the thousands during the 70s were considered refugees and those who came after the 70s were illegal immigrants from the south of the Philippines and were never considered as Malaysians. But they were those Filipinos who were here before our independence were given Malaysian citizenship. These earlier Malaysian Filipinos are law abiding and god fearing people and have no problem mingling with the locals.
It is news to me that there were referendum before on whether Sabah wanted to join Malaysia or the Philippines. I need to find out about this more.

Hello CaptainAlbert, Would have been good if Erap had them all eradicated since he declared war way back then. these people should have understand that the people there prefer to be malaysians now and not filipinos. they screw it up big time and should have let go of this royalty thing, because they are acting like china now.

i read what albert posted on the wiki page of sabah. it's a really long history. and the international court of justice has ruled that no claim will prevail if the people of the concerned territory has not desire to be a part of the philippines or the sultanate of sulu.

Hi Letran, The ties between the Philippines and Malaysia has and is always good. I think the sultan of sulu is just dreaming of recapturing Sabah at this time. What they are trying to do is to revive history which have long been settled. But most of us here think that the intrusion of the sultan of sulu is politicially motivated as we are facing our general election soon. This is another conspiracy by the federal government to instill fear on the people of sabah. Another dirty political ploy by the present government to allow these armed invaders to remain in our soils for weeks now without any concrete solution.

Hello Zandi, the days of the colonial times are over. I don't think you can just underestimate what they can do. if they get their hands on SABA and it's resources, they will have the financial power to buy weapons and surely create a tension that would cause the govt. to even more difficuilt to retain security in Mindanao. what a way to abuse the treaty

And in today's front page news one ex chief minister of Sabah suggested that the government pay the sultan of sulu a lumpsum of RM200 million! For what? This is just insane. In the past our country and our people have tolerated their presence in our country on humanitarian grounds due to the war in their homelands and now they hold us hostage and claimed that Sabah is their lands! Shame on these barbarians who think they are the modern day heroes and disregard the law and orders of other country.

That's a lot of money, 200m Ringgit would either gave them opporunity to make BAngsamoro more of a farm and infrastructure haven. Or a way to buy more weapons in terms of taking the entire Mindanao Islands. unless the royal family of sulu would turn the place into a metro polis and allow people to have more jobs. that would be something, but it's a risk that govt should take if malaysia is serious in giving 200m ringgit.

Well, I really don’t know every angle of this story but it is possible that the Phil government might think it the claim of the sultanate of Sulu will endanger the ties between our coutnry and Malaysia so they might swept it under the rug. The sultan might thought that this was an inappropriate response to the situation and took the maters into their hands. (But this is a only a imagined scenario and speculation).
In perspective, the sultan should have declared the claim way before however, things before were done with matters of trust. People have a sense and code of honor back then and not now. It’s possible that the time has come to formalize the claim since in this day and age, you cannot do anything or claim anything without proper documentation.
Personally, I don’t know these things will swing. But if the residents of Sabah should be heard on the matter, that is if they are legal residents. For all we know, Sabah might declare itself independent and develop into its own country.
Letran, the independece thing is not a history issue. Look at Europe and a lot of seperatists are forming in that area. Heck, even the US have their own issues like these.

Well stuff like this really can lead peoples to dislike each others and for the worse it can trigger national security issues.
I believe sometimes ago we too have some problem with Malaysia regarding the border so it's rather common for conflict like this to happen for neighbor countries.
But I do feels like when problem like this arise, the peoples should have calmed down a bit rather than just exposing their emotion too much.

Hello savire, i feel sad that asian nations are at throats with each other. but i think the muslim royalty is too late to claim it. i mean, llike claiming the fruits of something who worked it hard and they didn't made much effort in the past. so, i wonder, why are they doing this now? i think the irk started when the government made deal with the MILF in terms of peace treaty. more diplomacy is needed i think.
