I went and priced out flooring to replace my carpet in the living room and dining room and want wood floors. 1400 dollars for just the floor. Doesn't include labour or the foam underneath and glue and stuff. Ouch. Can't just do one room at a time either cause both spaces are open. We need 700 square feet of flooring. Ouch.

Try floating floorboards. They're just like the real thing only cheaper & easier to lay (you can do it yourself), if you have a reasonable existing floor. I can get them for about $36 a square meter here; less if I could be bothered shopping around.
All The Best with your project.

That seems like an offer lot of money for flooring especially without the labor or the backing underneath. I never heard of foam underneath wood floors. We have put wooden floors down before and never used foam. Do you guys think maybe between the both of you, you could put the floor down and save on the Labor. That is what my hubby and I do most of the times. We even designed and put in our own kitchen in our first home that we owned years ago. Floors are really easy to put down. In fact you could probably find a video on YouTube.com that will show you exactly how to put the flooring you brought. Just a thought because it will save you alot of money. I also would shop around to other stores for a better price.

Yes we are planning on doing the work ourselves to save money. But thanks for the foam info, I will look into that a bit more before buying cause if I don't need it it will save as well. Thanks

I never knew it was so much for just the flooring itself. Though I suppose I did think it would be more for wood than carpet. Is it really nice wood?
