hi to all
well, elections in our country is very near, I'm 23 now, its first time I see the elections time in full senses (23 is big age but I never cares politics/elections before) Now I see the realities of peoples, those who are corrupt now becomes a saints, those who steals public money now distribute money to peoples in sake of their votes, its kind of shocking but I also realize one more bitter thing, In Our Pakistan the Political system is very old & injustice, The voting system is totally depends on quantity but not a quality, The "Land Lords" who have billions $$$'s also preaches their "labor" you calls them "slaves" to have more & more kids so when elections came they are easily gets in power, our illiteracy rates is around 58% so 42% lives under the Landlords, I'm sorry but educated peoples are not also very sensible here, they also go for Money instead of honesty, so you guys sum up all the situations, for me, its My first time I vote, I wish the person I voted came in power & took some steps, for me its just a dream, wish my dream came true, The title above is I writes because I know in US their is different elections system than our country, Your president choose their parliament, so its all working fine, No Riots or fights nor accidents, I understand & agree the freedom you guys have its not very cheap You guys gives so many sacrifices for peace & liberty, so cannot you feels lucky If you are residing in USA??? I wish our countries corrupt system changed & we makes the strongest & dignified Country, so guys what you say about it??? I guess its first time I write such a big article, I'm kind of normal person who don't express my feelings with world, but mylot is my way of sharing so I share & write everything/anything here, have a nice day...

Our president does not choose our parliament. We don't have a parliament. We have an elected house and senate, and the president has to work with them. And we have good things and bad things just like every other country.

I'm glad you feel free to express yourself here on mylot. My answer to your question is yes, I am very glad I live in the USA. What you point out about your political system seems to be part of the human condition, while it may not be seen
as clearly here it still exists. One thing that seems to keep this in the public eye is our Press. Freedom of the Press to tell the public has made the corruption in places of power harder to maintain. But in many small places in the USA politics are as corrupt as any other place in the world. It seems that if people in general are getting what they want from their government, they will not
complain and cause changes. In other words, if someone else will take care of government and allow my life to go on peacefully I'll overlook any corruption that is going on. In fact I'll put my head so far into the sand I won't even be aware that this is going on. Only the young people see things clearly and have little or nothing to lose from upheaval. Blessings

Hello Tushavi!
I don't really know all that much about America to be honest but I am just happy where I am now. I would like to visit America one day but Australia will always be my home.
Happy MyLotting.

The President picks his "Cabinet", but they have to be confirmed by the Senate. These are not like a Parliament.
Our Senate and House of Representatives are like the British houses of Parliament, the Senate like the House of Lords (except they are elected by the states instead of a quasi-inherited house), and the House of Representatives like the House of Commons.
Each state in the U.S. elects 2 Senators, and then, determined by the population of the state, they elect 435 Representatives, but all states have at LEAST one.
The Cabinet hold appointed positions determined by the President or the person in the position - you may recall that Hillary Clinton just stepped down from being Secretary of State.
The fact that the U.S., and honestly most of the nations that were formed from under the British rules and governed by people predominately OF European extraction, U.S., Canada, Australia have been pretty successful at this representative government. Other nations that have tried it have been of more moderate success, often because they had the British system more or less imposed by others.
It generally take a more educated population to make this system work.
At its inception, this system was started because of the excesses of a British king, King John. It originally only gave rights to the Lords, but there is considerable differences in the world from 1215 when the Magna Carta was signed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magna_Carta
It gives me great pleasure to know that I have been to what is said to be the place where this document was signed and I've seen a couple of copies of the document, the one in the Salisbury Cathedral, and one that traveled about the country and I saw it at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center here in Austin.

Not all the usa is paradise. Remember one earns more there, but it also costs more to live in the usa. Rent is very high in most places there. So living in the usa isnt like living in paradise. I know, i lived there for 12 years...
