Since I dependon my computer to make a little extra money, and also use it as a hobby, I'm always afraid that something will happen to it and I won't be able to finish my task. Does anyone know if there is a way to keep a computer in good shape? Is there anything to avoid.

Hi happielady85. There are a lot of things you can do on how to take good care of your best friend (I call my laptop as my best friend too, lol!) in terms of security matters, software and hardware maintenance and others. All advices given was great, and one thing I can share also with you is that, when you're surfing net, your laptop is vulnerable to different security treats, malware, spyware and viruses too. What you can do is to create a separate user account and this account is not administrator type. You need to set it as limited account. You can do this by going to Control Panel and and User Accounts. The reason for this is that, this will not affect the entire system drive entirely since it was limited account only, because even the most advance antivirus is installed, this does not mean 100%, cannot be attacked by viruses. You can perform too the system defragmenter in your system, it's included on Windows already, under StartSystem Tools. This will help also because it will try to reorganize all the fragmented files in your disk.

We can never say that our computer will always be in good shape. There are certain factors that can affect our computer's functionality. To ensure that your computer is in good shape, make sure that anti virus software is always updated, check the hard drive and your memory if it has enough data to be stored, and of course, avoid other things to be in contact with your laptop.

My three year old daughter smashed the screen of my laptop. I had to get a new screen fitted. A week or two ago my laptop made loud buzzing sound. It cost more money to get rid that awful sound. Two of the keys letters of the alphabet have rubbed off. Use your laptop on a tray to stop dust from going into it. Good luck.

I can imagine how you must have felt when all those problems happened to your lap top. Yes, I'm always afraid that my numbers will rub off. Well, so far my lap top is doing fine except everything got changed around. By this, I mean my files. No one did it who lives at home with me.It must have been done when I get those messages something to the effect "new programs has been added to your computer." I hate this because I get used to one way and I hate it when everything has been changed. Do you have any idea why this is done? All it does is complicate things for me.

Hi,
A laptop is a very fragile electronic equipment, one mishap and a very expensive thing is gone. Avoid overworking it, taking particular care not to exceed the operating temperature if you live in the tropics. Shock, humidity and water are its nemesis so are malwares and viruses. Taken good care, it may last for a year, three years if you are lucky, twice that if it is designed by a reputable manufacturer, that is if it does not become outdated by then. Ten years, it already belongs to the stone age and should be consigned to the recycling plant.

In my case, I am always worried about viurs, and maybe I can provide some tips about it~
First of all, have your anti-virus software, and it would be enough even free one because we are not going to totally rely on it. It just a help or assist.
Second, give all of your USB a "autorun.inf" file folder, and you can prvent 90% harmful stuff.
Third, ctrl+alt+del, watch out CPU precentage by your own self. If it keeps running as 100%, there might be something wrong.
Hope these tips can somehow help you~
