it's very hot nowadays especially in the afternoon. i guess it's already summer & one of the most in demand refreshments is halo-halo. since yesterday, our neighbor started selling halo-halo for P10 and P15 pesos dpeending on the size of the cup. it actually tastes great. some of the ingredients are gulaman, pinipig, banana, camote, ube, sago, langka, etc. according to her, she will only sell halo-halo on weekends so that the people won't lose interest on it. while on weekdays, she sells ice candy. i think it's a great business.

Hi maria! I don't know if this kind of refreshment is available in your place. It is actually a combination of several fruits and other ingredients topped with crashed ice, evaporated milk and ice cream or sweetened ube (purple yam). It is popular in our place especially during summer. Have a great day!

Yeah similar to that. Although yes this is also expensive if being served in restaurants and other fast food stores. But those stores around the neighborhood, they are selling it for only $.25 to $.50 per glass. They are using those fruits that are in season like sweetened banana, papaya, sweetened beans, etc.

The only thing that comes close to what you are talking about is small pieces of ice with juice poured over it. I think they are called snow cones or shaved ice here.

Yes weatherman says, that summer would probably start on the 2nd week. So our favorite refresher in this kind of weather will start to get crowded again. Mixed with different sweet ingredients topped with shave ice, this is really a very cheap ice treat for this season.

Over here they make it so delicious. It's soft to eat and so delicious and it has shreds of buko. It costs PhP5.00. I can consume 2, but that is still with lots of control on my mouth.

Yes that is a good business specially if the halohalo is very delicious. In our place, we prefer to buy halohalo from our local dealer than that of the leading food chain in our place. The ice is finer than those in the leading food chain.
• Philippines

halo-halo in food chains are quite expensive. in our place, you have to ride a jeepney first to go to the nearest mall. so it really is quite a hassle.
• Philippines

wow there are P5 for halo-halo? i think there will only be few ingredients on the cup.

I remember in my childhood days my grandma would make these ice candies and sell them to my tita who has a sari-sari store. We would usually make it at night and make them in hundreds and there are times we would sleep late at night just to finish one batch and in the morning our uncle would come and get it from us. Summer time is really a good time to make it since it is indeed a very high in demand item for a sari sari store in their street.

well, it's really a great business opportunity since it's easy to make and you don't really need a big capital.

that's a good strategy since its not totally summer yet, but by April she could sell both halo halo and ice candy everyday, people would still buy it (",) also it would be good if the ice candy has different flavors everyday, the best one to eat during summer is buko salad, guyabano, mango and chocolate (",) yummy!!
• Penrith, Australia

Thats right, i think people would still buy it even if it was sold everyday, but selling halo halo everyday becomes a full time job and if you do other things on weekdays, it would be easier to just sell ice candy. Its a good idea though to have different flavors for each. I'd buy those.

remember the times when ice candy is only 25 centavos and Halo-halo that is drowning with toppings is only 5 pesos. Oh my! Good old days, I just hope that 10 years from now, Halo halo wont be 50 pesos, I wish out country's economy will be as good as it use to be. In my place, Halo-halo is 20 pesos and kwek kwek is like 4 pesos.
• Philippines
7 Mar 13
kwek-kwek in our place is P2.50 each for the small ones. P50 for halo-halo is really possible. i remember when the sundae cone at mcdo is only worth P3.50. now it's at P10, right? please correct me if i'm wrong. i just wish that the income of our people will also increase.

Indeed, I think it would really be a good business. Just look for certain ingredients that are affordable as well as delicious. Here in our place, there are a lot of stores selling halo2x with a very affordable price and a delicious recipe for it.
• Philippines
4 Mar 13
i think the ingredients are actually what makes the product taste good. but the prices should also be considered well so she can still earn.

Yeah, I used to sell ice water and ice candy before when I was still in the province during my high school days. It was my mother and my business most especially during school vacation in the month of April and May. We really had a lot of profit out of ice candy. We usually produced different kind of flavor like milk with mango, milk ,strawberry, orange and grapes flavor.
• Philippines
3 Mar 13
grapes flavor? how would that taste? actually there are a lot more flavors today for ice candy today. others use the flavorings used in shakes like bubblegum, cookies 'n cream, etc.

This is one of those things that makes me proud to be Pinoy. Halo halo has been a staple dessert for Filipinos since the early days. And it has endured the test of time with lots of improvements. I've also planned to sell halo halo but decided to back out since I don't have the time and mindset to do it. But I sure do enjoy eating halo halo and it makes my day when I do.

i agree with you. there have been a lot of variations of halo-halo where it has served as an outlet for people's creativity and cooking skills.

HAlo halo , sounds intriguing, but for non Filipino, i havent a clue as to what it is..and although we are neighbors, i can recognize only banana ,ube, sago , as for the rest you described,,Hmmm...sounds yummy...if i can know what it taste like.and if it is easy to make, i wont be rich but probably can make make a bundle selling the refreshment in Malaysia and introducing it as it is name Filipino halo halo dessert, people are naturally curious and wanting to try what is not familiar to them..especially in hot weather, can make a killing cooling people down

it actually is a seller especially since it's almost summer in our country. maybe you should try to make yourself first. if you lie it, maybe you can turn it into a business opportunity.

Very great business indeed! I really am not fond of eating halo-halo, but my kids enjoy them. And yes, there are a lot of them now selling in our area. And my kids would be buying every afternoon. The summer is here alright! And I am having short sleeps at night coz of the heat since our AC is broken. I really have to take a shower 3x, even at 2am!

a lot of kids also buy it here. especially ice candy since it's cheaper and has different flavors.

This post made me happy. Summer is really approaching and I'm so excited to go to the beach and just do some fun activities outside. But because of the hot sunny day what better way to refresh ourselves but with our local refreshments like ice candy and halo-halo. It is really great business since a lot of people are looking for refreshments due to the hot weather. May it be students, employees or anyone craving for some ice cold refreshments under the hots sun, one cannot agree more in seeking this quench of thirst from halo-halo and ice candy!

LOL I tried once long time ago when I'm still in college, I made and sold ice candy just to have an extra money during summer. Overjoyed seeing your pocket with penny out of your effort.

Yes. This is a good business especially right now that the weather is starting to get warm. Actually, last Friday, I made two orders of halo-halo in the store near our office and had it delivered in our office. My staff is so happy. I told him I received my online income already that is why I got him a snack. Have a great day!
