Diabetes and insulin

I have been a type 2 diabetic for 6 years now and type 2 on insulin for the last year. I take 26 units of Lantus at night as well as oral meds during the day, but still not under control. Is your diabetes under control or are you still struggling?

I am a diabetic as well. I use to take insulin and oral meds. But I have gotten it under control that I only take oral meds. I have lost weight and am very picky about what I eat. I can't eat to much or the wrong thing or my sugar level will skyrocket. Measure out your food intake and keep a log of what you eat. It might help you on controlling it. You don't only have to look at sugar levels in food but carbs as well. If you eat to many bad carbs it will take your sugar up. Even if it is sugar free you have to be careful. It can still take it up. Try and drink as much water as you can. It does help.

I also think it is good to eat a balanced diet and to avoid sugars as much as possible.

Stress is the killer for me; as soon as I get stressed out my BSL goes up and then it takes about two days to bring it down. The thing that sucks is that it's not a true reading meaning the elevated level isn't from food so the extra insulin I am putting in my body could end up making me gain weight. Thankfully I have come up with some creative ways to deal with stress.

Try walking and exercises. Walking helps to control the diabetes. I read that one should consistently try to walk every day to control diabetes.
