Hurry up Spring!

I can't wait for spring so I can go ditch diving. Many ask me what is it, it's just as the name implyes. I walk through the ditched, and pick up beer bottles. I did it a few years ago and made $800. We live down the street from a bar, I go weekly up and down the ditched and pick up beer bottles, then take them in for the deposits. I may collect cans as well, but don't think you get nearly as much money.

Why did you move to Mexico then? I don't think I would make much on the cans but for extra money. The price goes up and down here.

well thanks to our government I went disabled and they exspect me to live on under 900 dollars a month as for the cans in california it was a fixed rate of 5 cents per can and they weigh it and you get paid

Government is horrible, I know I've been trying to get disability and they keep reusing or declining it. Yet, I have a riend who is fully capable of working, just lazy, and got accepted right away.

Collecting bottles and cans for money? A good part-time job huh. I admire that you could make money with ur bare hands, for me, maybe I'm not that brave to do so. Anyway, I am looking forward to the summer coming, so I can wear light and be energetic all day. Now this is Spring here, so summer will come soon~~~~

I wouldn't care how it made me look, noone else is paying your bills and you need to do what you need to do. I live in Canada, people do look down on it, but I don't care it gets me easy money.

Why are you not that brave? SOmetimes you have to do things to make money and pay the bills. It's a way for me to get exercise, and make money with little effort.

I want spring to hurry up as well because I am completely sick of winter and tired of being cold. I too have walked around looking for returnable bottles and cans but I haven't found anywhere near the amount that you have. That sounds like a pretty good little side business if you ask me.

For us, we don't have deposits on glass bottles so there really isn't all that much in that for me. I tend to put all of our empty bottles into the recycle bin that the city picks up at our house on a weekly basis. However, I do try to save our aluminum cans because the payment per pound of aluminum is actually pretty good right now and that is something that is worth it to me. You know, I'm sure that there are times that you've found other very interesting things in the ditches as well, in addition to the bottles that you are looking for.

Really? I wonder why. I know here to bring back say a case of 4, would give me $0.80 - $1.20. I have thought about the aluminum as well its about 0.44 cents a pound right now. I have socks, mittens, sometimes I question what's in water bottles (which is why I wear gloves). One time a pair of underwear.

wow, not a thing wrong with that. I assume you are waiting for the snow to go away there.

That's really great that you are not ashamed of something like picking up garbage. My family used to buy bottles, cans, plastic bottles, aluminum and copper and most of them came from garbage. It really gave us a good income and I help them by asking my friends to give me their empty bottles, they laughed at me for collecting garbage at work but I just laugh with them and joke about getting rich.

There is a load of bottles come spring, over the summer it comes and goes. We use to get loads when the old owners had the bar here. Now this owner, how she stays open is beyond me.

I did wonder what this was til i read your whole conversation. I'mg lad you make a lot of money from doing this. Tho i think with cans you would make more because most bottles say on them 5 cents refund so i'd say turning them in you only get 5 cents per bottle. Al tho my hubby and collected like nearly 10 giant sized garbage bags of cans and only got $80 so maybe the bottles do make more money. I just thought the cans made more is all. Well glad spring is almost here and you can ditch dive again. Hope you make a lot of money this spring as well. I live near a bar but it is in like a strip mall and no bottles are ever outside. Tho i can go through my neighborhood and see about collecting cans and bottles off the street. Thanks for the idea of bottle collecting.

That's a great way to earn money... as if we had places like that near where I live. But I really want spring to come to be able to go for walks more often without freezing my butt off.
