Students bringing their own chair at school

I was on my way to work when I saw this kid between 12-14 years old waiting for a ride going to school. I can't help but noticed the chair she carry with her. I did not have the chance to ask her but I heard that some student at public schools do bring their own chair at school. I also graduated elementary at a public school so I feel blessed and grateful that when I was still studying, I did not have to do that. Our chairs and tables were more than enough for us. We even have a huge playground and garden back then. I feel sad thinking the condition of these kids while at school. I imagine a crowded class room without ventilation. I am sure that this kind of condition could lose one's focus and attention in their studies. I also remember that when I was a kid, I would usually complain whenever I had to bring books because they are heavy. I did not realized that time will come that students will not bring only books but their own chairs as well. I wonder now, do they have enough tables?

I was also a graduate from a public school, during my elementary and high school days. Lucky for me, I was not able to experience bringing chairs at school. The chairs in the school are just enough for the students. The school was able to do their job about facilities, although there are some lapses, but still its good enough. I think its really because of the growing population in our country, there are so many children nowadays unlike the old days. As adults we must be discipline enough to control ourselves and have only children just enough that we can support.

Yes, Those days are really great, we get to have more fresh air and playing time outside having more physical games. Children these days lock themselves playing video games and surfing the net, really frustrating..

That is true, many kids become addicted to playing computer games. Another result is they gain more weigh and become obese.

That is true, there are so many childrean these days. During our elementary days, there are only two sections. We have huge playground and garden to plant during our free time. We also have trees inside our campus but those garden and playground no longer exist nowadays. They have already built classrooms on those areas yet the classrooms are still not enough for the students. Yes, with the growing population we have at present, we should really take family planning seriously.

Some schools have already implemented shifting schedules I believe. For example first year students will go to school six in the morning and will leave in th afternoon then second year students will come to occupy the room. I leave our house 5:20 in the morning and I already see students walking. After work, when I passed by this school near our place between 5:30-6:00pm, I still see students in their classrooms. I remember that when I was a kid, we used to be in school morning and afternoon. We usually start our class at 8am and leave at 3pm. I don't think it is safe for kids to wander around the streets in the night.

Hi friend, sad to hear about the child's stage. I wonder why the school admin don't take care about this kind of issues? School is responsible for the chairs and tables and students are not in need to take them. I think the students are paying fees for their education and the school is having enough money to buy the chairs and tables.

I am referring to a public school so it is usually for free. Students do not pay them, it is the government who shoulder all the expenses. They would usually say that they do not have the enough funds to build new classrooms or facilities, but I think that education should be prioritized and taken seriously.

I had experienced it also, to carry and bring chairs in my class because all chairs in our room before was preoccupied already. It was a burden before to my parents because they need to look for a furniture shop to buy chairs for me. Our chair in school is different with the usual chair in the house. The school chairs should have a built in desk there so that the table will not be needed anymore.

Its a news for me. I dont think chair is mandatory, if the school cant afford it. Its rubbish to tell kids to bring chair like things from home. These schools should be stopped.

This usually happens to public schools so most parents who can't afford to send their children to private school would normally agree that they just bring chair for their kids.

this is a very heartbreaking scene. actually here in the philippines if your a parent and you enrolled your kid to a public school, you have to bring a chair for your child. It's because the corruption, i know the funds for the education here is enough for the children to have enough chairs for everybody however selfish people from the goverment steals the money that should belong to the benefit of the children, it makes me feel sad to see children bring their own chair just to be able to sit and write properly and be comfortable in school. we should put in mind education in not a privilege but a RIGHT of every children.

Thank you for confirming. So this is really happening. I only heard of it and then saw this child carrying a plastic chair that morning. I have no kid yet so I really do not know that when you enroll your children to a public school then you really have to bring a chair for them. That is unacceptable in my opinion because I have seen somewhere in Taguig where they provide even the uniforms and bags for the students. I think that the local officials is not doing their jobs properly. I believe that they have the budget for this, they just don't use it properly.

I guess either the school must have been too poor too afford chairs for the students, or that there were too much vandalism on chairs in the school that students have to bring their own so that each student will take care of their own chair (since it belonged to them)! Honestly speaking, I have never seen or heard any student actually carry chairs to school, so I am indeed amazed. I am sure when we witness such things, then we start to appreciate how lucky we were in the past when we may have taken things for granted. Hope those school children have sufficient amenities to be able to study properly in the most conducive manner.

I am also amazed when I saw the kid. I should have taken her photo carrying her bad and that chair and send them to those running for position in the government this year. They say that the number of students nowdays have really increased and to accommodate them all, they implemented and shifting schedule where one batch will use the classrooms in the morning then another batch in the afternoon.

during my student life i still never experience to bring my own chair in the school and i was really thankful for that,i studied with books and and class rooms,i think this is usually happen in the province because sometimes government didn't see whats going on to the far schools.

Yes, I have seen some documentary that some places look like they have been forgotten by the government. No roads or bridges for people/students to use. Some do cross rivers just to go to schools which can be risky for small children. Some go to school without sleepers. And some walks very far to reach their school. I think that the government could make an extra effort to reach those far places and help our people be given proper education.

Hi, we can't understand in which situation such students are going. There is a municipal school near our house. where there are no benches for students, Three to four classes are taken together. The students in this school are from poor families. Students ahve to clean the classes, lunch boxes of the teachers etc. The action should be taken against teachers but no complaint is filed against teachers.

Yes, I feel sorry for those kids. I am not sure how are they going to focus on their studies with that kind of situation. I am sure that with their number, their teachers cannot handle them properly. I understand that children were sometimes ask to clean their rooms, I have also experience that when I was in elementary. But to clean or wash their teachers lunch boxes, that is definitely not right. Well, some teachers do take advantage of their poor students. I have my own experience to share. When I was in my elementary days, one of my teacher would ask me to write our lesson on the board. So I always end up without my own notes. I will need to borrow my classmates notebooks everytime. I also experienced selling peanuts, champorado, beans, and candies during my elementary days. Those are my teachers products and I was always ask to sell them. They also have this instructions that if the student does not have money, they can just pay them the next morning. I don't think that it was a good practice. Yesterday, I have seen again, one student carrying his own chair. We're on our way home that time, it was in Taytay Rizal area but am not sure if the boy attend school in Taytay or in Angono. Yes, well definitely nothing would happen if no one would report these.

in depressed areas classrooms are packed with students, in others there aren't even walls that divide classrooms, what more in the provinces where they lack everything? from grade school to college, the largest classes i had was 40 students. elementary to high school students only had classes until 5 or 5.30pm. evening classes were only for college and my parents forbid us to take them, even my brothers. that's why i wish when people want to "give back" because they won in the lotto or became successful overseas, that they prioritize education and health, instead of the church (even if i'm catholic).

That is true. During our time, we're usually 40-45 in a class. And like you said, evening classes were only for college students. I like what you said about those who want to give back after winning a huge amount, or those who were blessed with fortune. One of my friends told me years ago that she would help a certain church in our place to be renovated once she became rich. She is currently working in Canada but I do not really know if she was able to fulfill her promise. If not, I would suggest that she would just donate her money in some schools that need help the most. By the way, I was at twitter these past few days and the other day I have read this post that the government has increased their budget for public schools. I just can't help myself from replying because I have been hearing the same in the past but I am amazed that the situation seems not improving.

many public schools badly need decent toilets, too! someone told me that if her husband won the jackpot, he would make the rounds of government hospitals and pay the bills of indigent patients anonymously. great idea, isn't it?
