My dog also needs her haircut done. I couldn't trim her because of the cold but now, that the spring comes, I must schedule her for a grooming session.
She's like a teddy bear now, but I couldn't say she looks about twice as big as she usually does, like you said about your dog.
People say she's fat because they see her short and round, but I know she isn't fat at all. It's only her long fur.

You don't necessarily have to shave her during winter. But you can shorten her coat from time to time, just enough to keep her "in shape". I mean, in shape of a dog, not in shape of a big sphere.
How does she stands the pink hearts jacket? Does she like to wear it?

hhaa awe she is very cute! ya my dog looks very round as well we joke and call her big bum cause she seems to be wearing pantaloons. the winter here is really cold, it would be cruel to give a shave too early. now seems a good time its warm some days and she can always wear her coat!! (pink with hearts puffy jacket)

I think the harness is one of the causes she has such a matted coat. Do you keep the harness on her all the time? If so, I think you should put it on only when you take her out for a walk.
Our dogs wears the leather collar only when we go for a walk, and this is about three hours a day. I don't see any reason for her to wear the collar when we're inside.
I wonder if you can post a picture of her, looking about twice as big as she usually does.

Octav is right. The harness surely causes matted coat. So you should take it off when she's inside, and put it on only when you take her outside.
Not to mention that it must be uncomfortable to the poor dog to wear it all the time, especially when she's sleeping. Just imagine how would you feel if you were wearing the bra even when you go to bed.

Twice the size? I'm picturing this little tiny chihuahua looking like a giant poodle!
I'm sure your dog will feel wonderful when this is all done, and they show it too. My cat in the avatar..RIP Kash..had very long hair and I had to have her shaved a few times. She loved it. Her hair was so thick and full it was almost impossible to put a comb through it. Underneath was like duck down, very thick. She really looked cute when they were done and gave her a lion cut, which meant her paws towards the bottom had fur, her neck had fur, and the tip of her tail had fur.....the rest was shaved...so cute.

What kind of dog do you have? Is that her in the avatar? What's her name?
HAHAAAHAAAA! I love your comment on shaving the legs!!! I'm old as dirt but I had to get up the other evening just to shave my legs because I couldnt' stand it. I was already in bed and it was like 10:00 and I was driving myself nuts....just couldn't stand it. I normally shave every 2-3 days...this was like 5 and just plain ugh.

I have two Maltese dogs who need grooming every day. If I miss a day of brushing, their hair gets matted, especially my youngest because her hair is thicker. I brush them, give them baths, trim their nails (which I HATE because they fuss so much about it), clean their ears, everything. I don't mind but some days I can't brush them. I was in the hospital not too long ago and I came home to two messy dogs who desperately needed a good brushing.
One of these days, I'm going to take them in to have them groomed. They're not show dogs and I don't take them around to show them off to people so it doesn't matter that they don't look like they're professionally groomed but I think it would be nice to have that done occasionally. Maybe I'll take them in next month. My husband is getting a big raise at work so I'll be able to afford to get them both "the works".
You know there is a dog with hair that grows like dreadlocks. I can't remember the name of the dog but it is so cool looking! What kind is yours?

In one week my dog is going on to be groomed. She has dread locks and mattes everywhere on her so bad. This place is walking distance from the house and very cheap but this is the first time we will be taking our little shi-tzu there. we used to groom our dog ourselves but it got too hard to do with hubby working and me not able to do so by myself very easily. I can't wait to see how she looks with her new groomed look and haircut. I hope this lady does a good job. Tho i think she will because hubby said he heard she is really popular in dog grooming.

Do the shave, I think it will make your dog comfortable and also can see well from all those hair. She'll also feel well I think when she gets the shave since it will take some hair weight from her, and of course it'll make her look pretty.
