The best way to overcome your fear is to face it. Go to the swimming pool. Take a dip, just enjoy the water. You dont have to swim first. Once your fear has lessen, then start swimming the breath before proceeding to the length.

You are right! Face it, gradually. Maybe the tub first?

I went to an interesting course yesterday called Sensory Training for Parents. They talked about the nervous person making very small steps. You might like have a bath and feel that water around your body. You might go paddling in a children's paddling pool as a small step towards total success. Then you might go paddling at the seashore where the waves are super gentle. You could perhaps end up going in the sea wearing safety gear. If the gear gets you floating and you stay near the shore you will not drown. You could wear goggles maybe. I love swimming and snorkeling. I swim slowly and careful and if I am not snorkeling my face stays out of the water. Remember take small steps in the direction of your target which is swimming. Good luck.

Hi maximax8, thank you for participating! Small steps will help me for sure, i just need to make courage :) I'll try to get into the water with a safety gear, hope it'll make me feel safe.I also like to have my face out of the water because i need to feel the air.

I don't know the best way for you to overcome the fear of water, may be you should wear a life jacket and several floating devices on you before entering the swimming pool, in this way, you will definitely not going to drown yourself no matter how hard you try to, once you pass this initial test, you may be able to overcome your own fear and no more feel threatening whenever you see the water. The second stage will then be taken up a swimming lesson and go from there on. NO i never have any fear of water, i love water. I always want to dip in the pool, lake, river and ocean whenever i got the chance, the water make me feel great and alive again. If you continue to be afraid of water, you are sure going to miss half of the fun in your living, you should at least try to overcome it as soon as you can , so you can enjoy your life on this earth to the full.

If swimming can greatly help you, then you must teach yourself not to be afraid. Drowning is all in your mind. You won't frown if you start in a pool that an instructor knows that you can handle. Have faith and see yourself come out better after this new thing in your life. Who knows, this might be one of your ways to get more physically fit.

It might sound weird, but the true way of overcoming our fears is facing them. Take swimming lessons! Hire a coach, tell them your problem, and try to go swimming. It's gonna be hard, but I'm sure you're gonna get used to it. It was the same for me with publis speaking. I was sweating, I become nauseous, I was shaking, I couldn't keep I contact... it was a mess. But as I tried to grab every opportunity to practice it in front of an audience, I became more and more confident. It took a long time, but now I'm okay.

All you have to do is relax, have time to go to a picnic in a pool or resort, find a part of the pool that is shallow, wherein you can stand up or let your feet touch the bottom of the pool, then relax, enjoy your time there, sit on the pool don't get stressed of thinking you might drown, you won't because your feet has touched the pool floor and the water is just waist deep. Slowly you will feel relaxed, enjoying your time and forgetting about the fear of drowning, you can ask someone to accompany you and look after you if your feel tensed. It is all in the mind, the fear in us is due to the fact that we fear of something that we can't understand yet, but once we have tried it, slowly but surely the less fear we feel. Just expose yourself to the fear and gradually your mind will settle and you will feel less stressed.

Hi agmamayo, i was many times to a pool resort and i'm always looking for the shalloewd part of the pool because this is the only place i feel safe.I know it's only in my mind but if i could have someone to trust and who will have patience, teaching me step by step i think i may overcome my fear.
