Party List System, election, personal interest, selfish, bastardized

It's a pity how a beautiful law, that is Party List System that was enacted for the marginalized sector has now become totally bastardized! This law which was intended for the marginalized sector, the sector who needs representation in the House of Congress but cannot elect one because of lack of funds or machinery.. During it's first implementation- election we were able to elect a few of them which really came from these sectors, some laws for their benefit were enacted.. However from the start of its second implementation politicians and their sons as well as people with personal interests took advantage of this beautiful law and got themselves elected to the detriment of the marginalized sector.. During that time we saw religious people and their sons, sons of the chief of the land, big businesses etc. even the cockfighting afficionados have been able to elect their own! Today, many politicians or big businessmen for that matter are again running under the Party List System pretending to represent the interests of these sectors but are actually promoting their own personal selfish interests... We must be circumspect in choosing people to represent these sectors otherwise the purpose for which this law was enacted will be defeated..

The general public are already represented in the congress by means of the congressmen out there and having a party list that represents those general public makes it redundant. As what our Philippine constitution teacher taught us, such system had become very worthless. It became a ground where youth, workers, unions and other group dwell instead of representing the marginalized.

Well that is true to an extent but then usually and even before the politicians representing their supposed reegion as congressman has not represented them well enough that there has to be the party list. I think those that has thought of this was intending for their own party lists to be up there i guess and get more money for their own benefit alone? The intention is not clear, really but we can smell something fishy now in that regard.

Hello sammy14, May I know from your point of view who are these people that are using the party for their own self interest. as you may now, we have so many poor that has always been used by different people int he politics. this happened at the height of the popularity of the celebrities entering politics. but as you may know, not all of them are successful like Vilma Santos.

Hello Letran.. There are many people one is the son of an evangelist, a son of the highest official of the land, the one is representing a business used in cooking do you consider these people belonging to these sectors, obviously not and many more.. read my lips! Ooops.. we cannot mention them here otherwise we might be... you know what I mean..

Oh my God! I agree with you! These politicians were bastardizing the system! I think they should really just stay out of it. I knew this one politician(or family of politician, representing the sector of the security guards! what?!!! was he even a security guard himself to represent these group of people?
