Recently my grandson was born in November with a condition called Brachial Plexus due to a difficult childbirth. Until then I have never heard of this condition and the effects it can have on a child. Brachial Plexus, or Erbs Palsy, is when the nerves are torn from the cervical spinal section. Either partially or totally leaving one with loss of feeling and function to the effected sides arm. The extent of damage ranges depending upon the extent of nerve root removal from the spine. Some will regain function on their own but some, like my grandson, require surgery to repair the nerves. He had to undergo a 12 hour surgery where they removed a nerve from each leg to transplant into his neck and graft them to his spinal nerves. The waiting game then begins to determine the extent of his recovery from the condition and just how much function he will regain. As of now though the color is good in hie hand and arm as they were white and cold at all times but now it is pink and warm leading me to have high hopes for his future. Has anyone else ever had to deal with this condition or know of others who have and how they have recovered from this?
