Faild discussions

Have you ever had the chance to write a well thought out discussion thinking it would generate a decent flow of input and replies only to find that only a few people only responded to it?
I recently began a well written, in my mind, on the psychological hold of addiction only to have 5 people respond to the discussion and was disheartening to me as I put time and effort into this discussion. I do try to write from my life experiences and as a recovering addict thought that others might have dealt with this or know others dealing with it in their own lives.
How do you deal with a discussion that does not live up to your expectations and continue to form discussion when the ones you do make never get off the ground in here?

There are so many members on mylot and everyone has their own idea as to what discussions they respond to. I've had a few where I got very few responses. What's important to me is not always important to everyone else.

I know exactly what you mean for I've seen this happen. Myself I can spend some time searching for the right words and making a serious effort to write as well as I can only to find that the effort is not a hit!
A hit however does happen in other discussions where members respond with silly little comments that do not have much substance. I can understand that every discussion is different and that we are not required to be serious all the time.
Lately though, after reviewing what makes "a good blog" on the internet, I am finding that people who are good at it are not all masters of content but they are able to catch the masses with catchy little statements. Here in Mylot there are those that are simply here to make money and focus on that only. This can drive the good discussions to the bottom of the list and sadly into oblivion.

I do agree with you as I do try to form well written, even if I do fail at it at time, discussions only to find they flop yet those who make quick one or two liners get the most responses. I guess what would make a great blog or article site do not make for great writing here.

Well, there are many times I have started a New discussion here to have it only responded back too by a few people. Part of it can be the subject line, and the category, and other times it could be the time of day, etc. Considering there are so many different discussions here being started all the time it is hard to miss a good topic here and there. I know I personally have a hard time keeping up.

Sometimes I expect to get many responses...and then I get two responses or none at all. I think it is hard to predict how many responses a certain discussion will get because sometimes the number of responses also depend on the number of active users when you post the discussion, the topic is not the only thing that matters. The category where you post the discussion also matters, and if you post your discussion in a category where there isn't much activity you might get very few responses. When I get very few responses I sometimes get surpriced, but I don't get a disappointed. If I get one response I consider the discussion a success

I have had that happen to me too, but I just figured that it wasn't interesting enough that others would have wanted to respond to them. I just calk it up and try again, and do better the next time. i am just thankful that I get any responses at all. One never knows when we start discussions, as to how far it will go, and I have had some that have done over 30, and most of them a lot less. There is such a wide diversity of people in mylot, that you certainly can't please everyo9ne. i know I only respond to those discussions, where i can give feedback, other than that, I just go on to the next one. Take care, and have a very good day.

I do understand this and just try like you to create and respond to what interests me yet try to create worthy discussions here. Yes there are more users here than what I can ever dream of reaching but just for once would like to see a discussion make an impact.

Hi steelers!
We cam from different countries and probably have different interests. So there are are really times that our discussion are being overlooked especially if it is focused on a specific subject which others might not understand.
This is just normal and this is really happening most of the time. So continue with your participation and you will learn things along the way.
Have a great day!
