multiple part time jobs

There's a couple of ladies at my work who hold down multiple part time jobs. One works early mornings by me, then goes to another job for the rest of her day during the week and has one one the weekends elsewhere. I think that's just a nutty schedule to keep up with. However, another gal has a job that's in the mornings til lunch time then works evenings by us. I'm almost liking her schedule but I know it wouldn't work for us as I'd need someone who can get the kids off to school in the early mornings and of course my hubby's schedule isn't consistant all year long so that makes things difficult.
Do you work more than one part time job? If so do you do it because of your availability? or is that all there is in the job market for you?

I'd prefer one job too. But full time jobs aren't always easy to come by and more employers are going to become hesitant to hire full time with Obamacare looming in our future.

I knew a girl at the bank who worked 4 different jobs. She had the full-time bank job during the day. In the evenings she's a cashier at a grocery store. On the weekends she works at a gym, and occasionally she dog sits. Of course she's a young, single girl without kids.. so it's easy to have a schedule like that. I couldn't imagine doing it myself. 2 jobs at a time was the most I ever had an it was torture.

Personally, it’s something to make me busy and productive. Of course, I also want to learn new things and preserving my other skills. In this work industry, employers don’t take or look kindly for anyone applying with a large gap on their employment. They would rather have one working all the time or even have the ability to juggle things with little or no mistake as possible. Would have been better if there is also a good value for work in terms of salary and benefits. But I can’t be choosy in these times. In addition, sometimes a part-time job or an employer would give me more time to rest or do another job that I’m interested in.
My mother kinda disapproves since she thinks that a full time or stable job is better. She says that it doesn’t look good that I only have part time jobs. But as said before, I can‘t be choosy when ti comes to employers even if I have a few advantages compared to my peers who do full-time jobs. I would bet that they also have a part-time job on their breaks. So, we’re basically in the same ship.
In my case, I have to make do with what I can right now. At least, I’m getting a lesson in time management. But yes, sometimes the industry I'm in is more interested in par-time work than full-time.

Hi snuggles, well right now I don't work at all. but when I was
younger I had no problem working a full time and a part time job
just for the extra cash..I just don't know if I could work
one part time mob now because of my back so kudos to any adult
who can still do so...

Well,i do multiple part time jobs. Its more or less based on my availability.I do have a job market but then it has its highs and lows and it has not been consistent.Plus, i try to find things and work things out and try to keep the clients long term.It helps to establish and get their business. One of the reason, most of us go for multiple part time jobs is because of the less amount generated by most of them. Not everything helps in meeting my expenses. To be honest, its tough living on part time jobs.It is not a constant source of income.Plus, working on multiple part time jobs helps us to save for the rainy day.For example,i have a surgery in 2 weeks time.It was because i worked on multiple part time jobs, i saved enough for the surgery.Else,it would always be tough on me especially from medical perspective. But then multiple part time jobs also helps us to be alert on our part and keeps us active most of the times. But then there are times, we would not get the relaxation which we richly deserve and sometimes have burn outs. And balancing personal life has become an part many a times with multiple part time jobs.Guess, there are many things to be a part time worker. Thanks!

I don't know whether I work one job or several because I work online and work for several sites. Since I'm self employed, I guess it's all one job.
It would be hard to have to divide up my days into two or three part time jobs, I think, but after awhile I'd get used to it.

I don't work, but there are a lot of people around here that have two jobs. Basically to make ends meet. A lot of the businesses have started cutting hours as to not have to pay the mandatory health insurance.

My part time job is mylot. I have always had a regular 9 hour (actually 8, an hour is not paid due to lunch break) job and it starts early and i end a bit late, having me no time for additional time to go and have a part time job. I am lucky i guess that my regular job does me well and that i no longer have to sacrifice weekends on these just to get extra money for expenses.
I think what you told us here, with the ladies you worked with, it is going to be so hard for me as i do not think i can handle such a busy schedule anymore. Whenever i have my free time i am here in mylot and this is what my part time job is. hehe ;) I do this when i am watching tv, when i am in bed trying to fall asleep... :D

A lot of my neighbors work part time jobs, some have one or two during the week and another on the weekends. People here started cutting back on full time employees and cutting their staff because of the coming health insurance crap. On one hand it provides variety but on the other, they are usually minimum wage with no benefits so if someone gets sick they are out the income as well as having to pay their own medical bills.
I can't even get a part time job. They're all in retail and I'd have to stand up for hours and about 5 minutes is all I can tolerate with my arthritis and curved spine.

Some people feel forced to work multiple part-time jobs. For whatever reason, they cannot secure a full-time job; that leaves cobbling together a living out of multiple part-time jobs--without benefits.
If you have a spouse working full-time and have children, working outside of the home may not even be worthwhile from a financial standpoint. If you are buying more foods prepared outside of the home, paying for childcare, buying special work clothes and/or losing time that could be spent in productive activities such as gardening, the job outside of the home may actually be less beneficial than staying at home.

I had 2 jobs for the better part of 10 years. 2 of those years I had 3 jobs going. it's hard and you feel like you never know where home is. I wouldn't do it now by choice because of the state taxes you have to pay in from these part time jobs.
When got into my 30's I stopped working all the extras and concentrated on 1 job so could focus more on my family. I feel lucky could do that because some families just don't have the choice to be home at the same time or have that extra time with their families.

I know several people who work multiple jobs just so they can make ends meet. I am currently not working, but I have been looking. Now that I am done with college I am taking time to spend time with my husband and also getting our house organized. In addition I am taking classes at a craft store learning how to make jewelry and also sewing. It is my hope that I can create an online store by the end of April abd hope that I can make money. It is hard living on Randy's social security (he has a foot condition where the bones are breaking badly that he has trouble walking), but we do the best we can. My brother lives with us and that is a big help because my brother pays the household bills while we pay the rent. The only bills we pay besided the rent is the life insurance and car insurance. The job market in Nevada is terrible and in most states in the United States are just as bad.

I always have full time jobs. I never was able to hold a part time one since I am working most of the time. I may have a few writing gigs but only during my spare time which, isn't really that much whenever I am off from my full time job. I do like the idea of having more than one source of income.

I currently have just the one job. I occasionally will repair a computer for someone on the side or do some mystery shopping. I enjoy having a full time job right now and not multiple different ones. I enjoy getting to have the time to spend time with my family.

There was a time when I had multiple jobs!
I was working a regular 7-2 job in a shipyard. I couldn't call it full time since it wasn't really 40 hours a week. And then, I had an on-call part time inventory job. Plus I was taking courses at night.
On top of all these, I had to take care of kids. Those were crazy-times for me. And crazy schedules!

I can't imagine what kind of life those ladies you mentioned have. Maybe they're far away from family that they really don't have time to have some fun. As for me, I only have one job. I tried doing a part time online job at Odesk before but, I wasn't able to keep up with it. My main job demands too much of my time and effort and that's why I stopped bidding for small time data entry jobs in Odesk. And besides, I have Mylot to get into when I have more time in my hands. On my days off, I love resting and relaxing, watching lots of shows, reading books, surfing the net or just sleeping and it makes life easier and less stressful.

My heart goes out to anyone who is forced to work 3 jobs just to make a living. When kids are involved it is even harder. I once worked 3 part time jobs but had no children and rather enjoyed the variety ..fortunately that didn't last more than a few weeks as I was transitioning into a full time job.
