I was lucky enough to let out my cottage, get a working holiday visa for Australia and go off on my trip around the world at age 20 to 21 years old. Now I am aged 40 I haven't got the funds or the time available for such a trip.
If you could do such a trip where would you plan to go thinking about your current level of travel experience?

There are a number of Aussie vegans who feel they "know you" from MyLot for years already. In addition, we have a large, active group of vegans in each state who'd love to have you stay over for a time, as a guest. Funding for you would be all taken care of by us. Flash them your credit card at Customs in the airport & they'll let you through. Now all you need to do is find the time!

We'll make sure we roll out the red carpet when you get here, so to speak (or should that be a green carpet?). You can check out our membership base on:

We've changed so much for the better since 2000 (did you stay for the Olympics?). And there are vegan retreats like Bed & Brocolli too in other states. New Zealand are really good for pure vegan accomodation too.
Thank you for the BR!

You were rather lucky to be able to do that. I am 26 almost 27 and I have seen very little of the world, I doubt I will have the funds to ever travel how you were able to. Life gets more expensive as time goes on and the value of travel in my opinion ... well some places it decreases and others I really want to see more and more.

Australia is such an amazingly wonderful country. I wish that every flight was affordable to go there. Not anymore with expensive airport tax and less great routes across the South Pacific Ocean. I hope in your lifetime you get to see all those must see on your wish list places. Good luck.

It is great that you had the chance to travel around the world when you were 20 and 21. It sounds amazing. A trip around the world would be my ultimate dream. The countries in Asia where I haven't been yet would be my first priority. I would visit Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Russia. China, India, Nepal and Bangladesh. If I could get a visa I would also like to visit Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kirgyzstan.
In Australia I would visit my friend and I would also spend some time in New Zealand. In Africa I would visit Morocco, Tunisia, the Gambia, Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. In South America and Central America I would visit Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Belize. In the US I would drive around for a while and visit many different places.

Thanks for your wonderful response to my discussion. You seem to really like Asia and wish to explore lots more of it. I hope you would get visa for the Stan countries. It would be fantastic for you to see your friend in Australia. You would see the most countries on your amazing trip if this could happen. Wow!

There are so many places I can think of that I wish to visit and I regret not having travelled more when I was younger. I think my first choice of destination would be Canada. I love open spaces and majestic scenery and Canada certainly fulfils these two objectives. However, the cost would not be insignificant and would require some considerable budgeting on my part!

I made sure I went ahead with my plan to visit Canada in 2010. It was a celebration trip to mark one year of still being alive. I loved seeing Vancouver the beautiful city and the rural wonder of fantastic Vancouver Island.
I feel travel is more expensive than it was in my lovely twenties. Airfares are huge due to all that airport tax. I was horrified how much airport tax I paid on my last long haul trip. I swallow the cost of traveling once a year now for a up to a month.

I agree with you. Traveling can teach us a lot of things which we can never learn unless we actually take that trip. I have travelled a bit but never on a working holiday. I really have to plan a holiday and sometimes even request for days off of work just to be able to travel.

Thanks for your excellent response Raine. Yes, traveling has taught me so very much and delighted me. Seeing the tide change in New Zealand was better than any book. I am glad that you have done some traveling. It was hard to get time off for my son for my next trip in May and June.

In one respect it was great that you did manage to get to Australia, at least you can look back with fond memories and who knows, one day the opportunity might come again, or at least your children will follow in your footsteps and have a taste of travelling! I think because I don't like flying that restricts me a great deal, at the moment I have no plans at all to travel, I did enjoy my camping tour of Scotland which I went on in 2006, there is still a lot of the UK to explore and I still haven't been to Ireland or Isle of Man, two places which are closer to home and thus much more achievable.

I would go to Europe, to Great Britain to see where my mother came from and also go to Australia and maybe the Caribbean. I might have to get a private plane and my own cruise line with the security that is going on at the airports.
