Harlem Shake

I've been notice lately something called the "Harlem Shake". I figured it must be a dance, when youtubing I found out yes, it was a dance not to be confused with the original "Harlem Shake" though. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecqX4h11d4U So apparently the "Gangham Style" is also a dance craze www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZmkU5Pg1sw So I'm thinking well, now I've also witnessed the "Cupid Shuffle" www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrqmmtaSTPM and the Macarena www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrqmmtaSTPM and who can forget the "disco" age. So, now I'm wondering if maybe it weren't for Elvis Presley and his "swinging" hips or Chubby Checker and his "Twist" www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbK0C9AYMd8 maybe we wouldn't have these new dances. What dance craze have you been a part of?

The Harlem Shake looks pretty stupid to me. It's not a choreographed dance at all. I wanted to show you the video my daughter made with some friends on Doing the Bernie dance but I can't find it on YouTube. I have it on my computer but don't know where it is on YouTube. It's really good. If I find it I will post it.

Found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1ppENkP4tI My daughter is the one in the yellow, sometimes orange, shirt. The indoor shots were taken in my house, the backyard too. The car shot is in front of my house. The rest were done around our town... IN PUBLIC.

Thanks for sharing your link with us! That's a lot better than the Harlem Shake!

I don't like this new version of the Harlem Shake at all. Infact many people who were part of the original harlem shake, are quite insulted with this new one. I am still quite "young" (i'm only 35), but I have always agreed that without Elvis and Chubby Checker, there wouldn't be half the dances that we have today.

Thanks for responding Chispa514! I wouldn't be brave enough to start a new dance craze!

i haven't been a part of any of them. i would like to see how many people can come up with their own dance names until hardly no one cares.

I used to be good at jitterbugging. Yes back then, I could really swing, not like what I am now.

I am from the New Wave Generation and is still loving all those great songs after so many years. I don't think I could ever forget the memory of my high school years. It was the best!

I love taking part in these dances especially the gangnam style and the harlem shake. It is fun dancing these because it bring fun into everyone especially with friends or groups of people. I also have fun watching these dances in youtube and a lot of people are having fun dancing them also kids and even older people.

I find Harlem Shake kind of silly and stupid and pointless. Other dance crazes at least had a proper coreography for them and looked okay. I was a kid when Macarena was a huuuuuge hit, and I was a Macarena dancer all the way! What else was there... oh, the Kethcup Song dance :D. I like doing the twist, but not out of being a Chubby Checker fan, because I didn't even live then. Also, I was a part of the dance craze of Spice Girls song Stop's video dance coreography... we even had a dance for it which we performed on school day in the 1st grade of primary school :D...

I heard the harlem shake ont he radio, it's like the gangham style. I think it's just plain stupid, and annoying when I heard it.

I don't really have a dance craze for any of these nor the ones that weren't mentioned, but if people like to do it then be my guest. People do it to look cool or what not, but it's up to them.

Harlem Shake is basically this internet thing where for the first half of this video one guy dances alone with a helmet, while everybody around him doesnt notice. In the second half, everybody's spasming and doing weird things with weird props
