Fried String Cheese

I have no idea how available string cheese might be outside of the US (let me know if you live elsewhere and have access to it!), but for those of you who can get it, you might want to try this out. It's very simple, but you can make it fancier if you so choose; all you need is a stick of string cheese, a frying pan, and a bit of butter or other cooking oil. And a stove, of course. I prefer to use salted butter when I do this, because it's healthier and adds flavor, but let's get to the actual tasty creation! Grease your pan after letting it heat up (medium heat works well), lay the string cheese in the pan, and that's pretty much it. I recommend flipping it at least once after the bottom of the cheese has begun to crisp up, but you don't necessarily have to. It makes a yummy, crispy cheese treat that is wonderful on its own, but great with bacon, sausage, in a sandwich...it's very versatile! It's also a good camping food, as it's easy to fry over a campfire. If you don't have a pan, you can even stick a string cheese on a skewer and toast it over the fire, much like a marshmallow. It won't get as crispy and takes more tending to (so it doesn't fall off into the fire!), but is just as delicious. If you feel like getting creative, you can add spices to your cheese as it melts. Or before you put it in the pan, grease the cheese itself and roll it around in bread crumbs or parmesan cheese granules (the gluten-free version of mozarella sticks!). I just found some tomato-basil string cheese at Safeway, but I haven't tried frying it yet...I'll let you know how it turns out when I do! :)

You should give it a try! I've tried proper frying cheeses, too, and enjoy them quite a bit, but they don't melt the same way mozzarella does.

I have never heard of it being fried like that, but mozerrela sticks..those are string cheese drudged in bread crumbs etc and deep fried. Those are AMAZING! I love them! I wish I could make them, but just haven't had any luck with them! Probably a good thing, I'd be making and eating them all the time! They are so good!
