On the news this evening they are saying that Korea wants to make Washington a sea of fire. They are working on nuclear reactor and are a real nuclear threat. The news reporter said:"You have to take this seriously." Okay. ANd then they say that they are still years away from having this available but they are getting ever closer. So I don't understand why. Are they wanting to be the world power? Does this alarm you? What are your thoughts on the subject?

I don't know what is happening to this country. To think that most of their people are starving and still they are thinking of hurting others. What kind of ideology is that, maybe they want to be recognized but they should learned to help themselves first not destructing other peace loving country. This is alarming, the US should take this issue seriously.

I think their people are starving because they are thinking of hurting others. Takes a lot of money to do nuclear research. I am sure that the U.S. does take this seriously. They are watching and have technology that will tell when the time comes.

They do take it seriously along with others. That is why they have sanctions put against them. What they need is a leader that will have them removed and do what it takes. They could make a peace loving country that wants to help its people not turn them into war machines. Shame on them.

To be honest, I felt that North Korea is very bold with such an announcement and I hope that they are not really considering carrying this through.
On the other side, I hope that the US will not be slow to react again as like the episodes in Pearl Harbor and 9/11 Twin Towers where Americans have been carelessly underestimating their aggressors. The price had been costly and I hate to see it being repeated.
However, I have every confident that US will be able to protect herself from such attack as we have witnessed how Israel reacted to the missile attacks recently.

I think you along with the Americans will look at this threat differently because if that son of the Kim is true to the threat - there will be no jets or army to shoot. Instead, you will be looking at ballistic missiles armed with high grade uranium warheads coming at you.
I hope the much talked about shield defense by Obama and his administration is really there because this one is going to be even more catastrophic than all the world wars add together.

I hope they are moving military in that direction just in case. I think they are power hungry and think they can over come us. They have a big surprise coming.

Yes, and so we need to have some U.S. military numbers nearby watching. Hopefully the people in the know are reading our 'shield defense'.

ive been worrying over N. korea ever since things started on the news about them wanting to bomb us out of existance. they been saying it for over a year and so since all i can do about it is worry, i try not to watch or listen to such news. my oldest daughter called and was talking about the same yesterday and she said not only are they not allowing people in nor out, but people are not even allowed internet in that part of the country. its all way to creepy.

I try to not listen also but then I get curious and have to see what is going on. Paranoia(on their part) will destroy ya. All we need is another war.

This does alarm me because Korea is very evil in my opinion. I think I'm more worried for my family living in the United States. I would not put anything past this country and its threats. I hope they are really years away from having anything ready. Then why put this out there now to the world. I wouldn't trust them because they are threatening the US but claiming to be years away from finalizing a nuclear reactor. I bet its all ready and aiming at the US already.

Evil is right. I'm surprised they let us know what is going on. But we really don't know when they are ready with the bomb. I wouldn't trust them to tell us the truth about how soon it will be ready.

I think that North Korea wants to flex its muscles. I think the son, who replaced his father wants to be taken seriously. And I think that making grave threats like this make him appear to be more powerful. At least to his people.
Now I think they're scrambling to back up their words.
Can we send 'The Worm' back there again to broker peace?!

Maybe we will need 'the worm' to do just that! Flexing and actually being near ready with nuclear stuff. I think they want power.

Yes, where evil is you can't believe a word. Hopefully our technology is good enough to see an launching going on. We need to keep our eyes and ears open.

That was nicely said Teo, but even if the North is just waging it as a psych war against the US, it is still alarming. I guess the UN or NATO or any governing international body responsible in maintaining world peace should not take this news for granted.

It's scary to me. They are crazy people and we can't trust them to not do the stupidest things. We need to take the threats seriously. IF they are "light years" away from being able to blast the US, we still need to take it seriously. People who hate to this extreme can do anything. If not nuclear, then men on the ground... who knows?

But if they don't have much backing and CHina is agreeing that they need sanctions put on them then perhaps they won't be so brave as to try anything. you are right in saying 'people who hate to this extreme' may do anything. Crazed with hatred for us could turn them toward nuclear war.

That new young chubby leader who had just taken over the helm of the nation's office after his father passed away is hoping to show to the military and his people he is a strong and reckless leader for North Korea, through making fiery statement to attack USA and South Korea with nuclear bomb will satisfy his crave of building a heroic image deep into the psychic of all his people to replace his deceased father. He may not have the ability to carry out the nuclear attack on USA now, but he is working on that plan now, it is just a matter of time he will make good his threat. If he start the first strike with nuclear weapon, i am sure he will get to witness and experience that sea of fire within North Korea sooner than he envision. Yes, We should take his threat seriously and take certain counter measure if possible, especially if the situation like food and medicine shortage inside North Korea is getting more desperate for him, then strike out quickly to divert blame is the only way for him tohold on to power within.

He's young and doesn't look all that smart. Hopefully he will just stir the pot and then shut up for awhile. They just have to raise their ugly heads occasionally to let us know they are still there hating us.

It is a sign that the time to replenish the dwindling stock of their domestic food and medicine is here again, making deadly threat on USA and South Korean in general will increase pressure on their southern neighbor to deliver more aids into the border quickly. This 'fatso' must have learn it well from his dying father when he is just a child, rev up the threat on South Korean, they will send in more food, medicine and aids a lot faster, almost immediately in order to avoid nuclear strike since the leaders inside South Korea still too weak to retaliate whenever facing military provocation.

The goverment probaly knows more then they are letting on. They don't want to worry us could be their excuse! That is my take on this.
I don't get that North Korea is so hung on nuclear war with us when they are letting people stave in their country! You can tell were their piorities are!
Then I can't figure out why they let Dennis Rodeman is thier country but won't talk to us? None of this makes sense!

Government usually does know more than they are saying. Trying to keep us from freaking. If they are power hungry they can spend alot on nuclear research and let their people starve. Dennis Rodeman is a queer bowl of beans and what does every make sense in evil doings?

I don't know much of anything, but I think North Korea is flexing its muscles. They've been on a cease fire since some time in the 1950s right? I kind of think the best thing for everyone concerned for the UN to be dismantled. There is no way the US would sit back and not take counter measures to intercept a missile aimed at Washington.

Hi,
I haven't read this news. But it is very surprising. Korea wants to make Washington a sea of fire. It is very unfair thing. We know Japan is facing the radiation problem till now due to nuclear explosion in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Why Korea wants to repeat this? It is impossible for Korea to become a world power.

I have no idea but I know that is the way of media always to make things like a fire and make some even not real gossips. I do not see any problems for the future of our earth, I just believe that we are going to fight with one thing and that is our ignorance and we are going to get close with something and that is increasing knowledge and humanity day by day. so I do not think earth will have that kind of fiery time.

yes they do have the means to know what is coming and well they could send over a few of the troops for a recon mission but i am not sure that a whole base needs to go

all I will say is this. I implore the USA not to dismiss this threat. Some dictator's are not the sharpest knives in the drawer and anything can happen. It is a serious threat to the Us. I am convinced of this. Soemtimes, governments play down events as they doand sometimes, we do not learn form the past. I read the new book on Lincoln recently and was struck by how some things basically remain the same. What a giant of a man Lincoln was? No change with people. Events and circumstances nchange but not the attitude of people.

3000 isn't much when it comes down to it. But having Naval forces and so forth on the watch that is good. It could be just mind games but best to be on the watch.

If North Korea is on its own they may not be so stupid as to start something. If they had CHina with them and some other countries perhaps they would be more apt.

I don't think North Korea will ever be a world nuclear power. Sure, they have significant nuclear energy and have the potential to do some serious damage but there is no way they can dominate on the world scale. N Korea is just picking a fight with everyone politically because it feels like its not being taken seriously. Before they would use South Korea as their "hostage" so to say but now the new leader seems to be taking a more open and direct approach towards the US. Even the last remaining ally, China, believes that sanctions should be made against North Korea.

Well, I certainly hope you are right. But doing some damage is enough. I am glad to hear that China wants sanctions. Sounds like North Korea isn't impressing China at all. That's good.

That excuse may be one of the most irresponceble, foolish or sadistic responces yet. If any one is going to attack first it will be North Korea or try to provoke a war.
The N. Korean regime brain wash their people right from chilhood to believe that America and the West are the evil ones and taught hate the USA.... North Korea is still hung up on that war from 60 years ago as if it just happened yesterday.

This does not sound good to me, of course they are going to say that they are still years away they do not want people to panic. I think something for sure is going on or in the works. Regardless if it now or years away that would effect our Grandchildren. Hope Washington is steps ahead of them.
