Dogs Think Our Room is Theirs

Our two huge adorable bullmastiff dogs think that their room is our room and their being territorial in nature compels them to get angry at anyone who would get things out of our room. They can be very protective of our things that they know belong to us that are inside the master's bedroom. The downside to this is whenever we send our helper to get something, our dogs wouldn't allow her. Well, I guess I've become used to taking the dirty linen outside after the helper cleans the room. She could stay in the room to clean but the dogs are there too..hahaha! Our dogs sleep on the floor in our bedroom. They would let us know when they need to go out to pee or to poo or to drink water. Even if I take out all their toys outside, they would bring them over and over inside the room. My dilemma is this: we will need to move to a new house so we can have our old house renovated. Problem is that the three bedrooms are upstairs. Our older dog cannot go up the stairs anymore because his legs have become wobbly due to arthritis. Well, I will have to ask my husband to stay with them downstairs during the night because these dogs, although they are huge, are actually scared when we're not around.

They are territorial because you allowed them to be. People usually say it is not healthy to sleep in the same room with the dogs, but I can't help it either. Our dog also sleeps with us, sometimes she even sleeps in our bed. Funny thing is when she goes to sleep in bed before me: I don't have enough place to sleep so I lay down in the armchair, watching TV, until she decides to go down. She usually does this in an hour or two, because she feels too hot in the bed, so she goes to sleep on the floor.

Oh my, I can't stop smiling at the stories of all these adorable creatures that are a part of us. What your dog does is soooo cute and really funny. Just don't forget to thank her everytime she allows you to use her bed..haha! My dogs don't do that but they love to sleep on our couches.

Cute Tootsie! And she's 12? And she owes you..haha! Pumba, my eldest is 9 years old and he's arthritic already. But when he is maintained on a diet, he is healthier. He seems to have become so voracious he just wants to eat! And when we tell him it's not okay for him to be obese because he will return to the hospital, he seems to understand and will just go away and lie down on a corner.

One of our dogs is also very old. Just like your older dog his legs have become arthritic so he walks wobbly. He could not even chase the cats that pass near him. He used to hate cats and would go and run after the shocked cat that happen to come near him, but now no more.
But our dogs are left alone on themselves. They are our watch dogs so they live downstairs and watch over our house faithfully. They are trained to not enter our house. They have their own house where they could comfortably stay and eat anyway.

I wish I have taught my dogs to just stay outside the house. But I really pity them staying outside so they have grown inside the house. It's too late for me to not to have them inside. You know there was one time, at dawn, when the two of them woke my husband up because they wanted to pee. My husband didn't notice that he left the younger outside. I thought I was just having a dream that a dog was continuously crying outside. More than three hours had passed when I finally checked the room and I found out that the younger dog wasn't in the room. I asked my husband and we rushed outside and my heart was broken when I realized our poor baby dog had been very scared, all alone outside the house. He almost ruined our backdoor. He was very tired. I was imagining how he survived alone for three hours in the garden, in our backyard, at the garage. Poor dog...I babied him bigtime that day.

It seems that your two dogs are very protective and loyal to you. You have trained them very well. Perhaps they should be the ones to accompany anyone who needs something from your room. It is so amazing and amusing and a tribute to dogs and owners everywhere.

They are overly loyal. They both want to even stay in the washroom just lying there while I do my "thing"..yaiks! When I step inside the bathroom first thing in the morning I should have them go out first to pee or else, they would rush in the cr first before I come in. What I do is to run and shut the door as fast as I could and I would laugh and start wailing. This would make them wail until the whole house is full of vocalization or dog singing from the three of us..so funny!

Oh Mastiff's are big babies aren't they. My girl CoCo would sleep on a rug at the end of the bed. Woke up freezing on night and she had pulled the comforter off the bed as a blanket for herself.
They are part of our family. Just like children they want to know where you're at all the time. I'm sweet on their needs too and sorry your older dog has arthritis troubles. It is painful to watch them hurting.

Haha! I can just imagine how cute and funny Coco girl is. I just love stories about how our dogs feel like they can really do anything that's out of the ordinary and still, make us all laugh instead of get mad at them. They are worthy to be treated as part of family because they know how to love back.

Well, you have two options: either your husband will carry him upstairs for the night sleep, or you will move the master bedroom at the ground floor. But what is sure is you won't be able to let him sleep downstairs alone.
They are not scared if you let them alone, but they do feel better in your presence. That's how all house dogs are.

Haha! Funny thought you just poxt here. Well, our arthritic huge dog is 54 kilos, definitely, carrying him upstairs is not an option. :) But we might just take the other option, move the master bedroom downstairs..:D You're correct, they want our presence, they feel secure and loved when we are with them.

awe poor guy, i think this is quite funny i like how they bring all their toys back my moms dog hides toys in my sisters room when i come over with my dog. they are so particular! hopefully renovations are quick so your husband can sleep in his bed :) or you can carry the dogs if they arent too big
@Adval2013 (436)

Yes, they are indeed so particular..one of my dogs also is a lot routinary and he would always insist he should have a plateful of dogfood whenever he sees us preparing to go out. And when I come back, they both rummage through my bag because they know I have something for them to eat. They definitely will have a room downstairs with my husband because my aging dog's legs are now wobbly.

Hi Adval ! Dogs are our bestfriend and our protector . The dogs can feel that we loved them so much that is why they never leave us. They are so confident so they believed that what we have is theirs also.

I agree with you, Angelpink. Especially that I have first hand experience with them being loyal, loving, funny, jealous, creative wonderful creatures..in fact they help me beat daily stress.

Hi Adval! What a nice story to read because I am also a pet parent of 4 dogs and a puppy. I admire your dogs for being so protective of your belongings. I also have a pet who's sleeping with me-- a 3 year old shih tzu. She thinks she owns our bed too but she can stay in the house even if we are not around. About your dilemma, well, I just hope your husband will agree with that "set up" during night time :)

Hi! Really? Four dogs plus a puupy? You are so blessed to have them and they are so blessed to have you as their loving pet parent. My sister in law has shihtzus. And I have been asking her to allow me to adopt one of those. She wouldn't. She loves them too like her own babies. Well, I and my husband have an agreement already when we move in to the new house and it's definitely to the advantage of our baby dogs. :)

Hi Adval My friend has two bullmastiff dogs and I know how big they are, but they are lovely at the same time. I have two dogs as well, An English Setter and a Golden Retriever and they are the same as your dogs they are with me and my husband at all times. I know when the time comes for my dogs as they all get older my English Setter will be 7 June and the Golden turned 2 in January, they are both suppose to be prone to hip problems (so far so good) we will have the same problem as we have a two story house. I know myself or husband would stay downstairs if need be Just because we love them!

Wow, Golden Retriever is our dream dog right now. But we're not really ready yet to have another dogs because my 9 year old dog is a jealous dog he always wants our attention. He shoos away the smaller one when we would embrace them both. Yes, because we love our dogs, we can always find ways to make them feel secure even if our husbands should sacrifice a lot. Hahaha!
