Do Brides and Grooms Still get Pranked on Their Wedding Night?

Answered another discussion about wedding traditions and it reminded me what we used to do to the bride and groom on their wedding night. Example....we went into their new home and did the following: Took all the labels off all their canned goods Took all the light bulbs out of the house Took all the fuses from the fuse box Moved their bedroom into their living room The living room into their kitchen There Kitchen into their bedroom Needless to say this couple didn't talk to their friends for a while. My marriage prank didn't involve our home. It was snowing hard that night so they saran wrapped the pick up doors shut, put vaselined the running boards, side mirrors and stirring wheel. All the windows were soaped up and then "I got the ball and chain today" written all over. Do you practice wedding pranks? Does it sound like fun? How many friends have you lost because of it? The first couple....it took a long time before they would talk to any of us again...giggles

I guess when you grow up in the country you don't really hear about stuff like this. Where I am from I don't think anyone ever pulled a prank on the newlyweds; I would hope no one does it to me on my wedding day because I would be steaming mad. The only traditions I know of is the smashing of the wedding cake in the others face , the throwing of the bouquet, and the throwing of the garter; which most men try NOT to catch.

More I'm reading here the more realize it's within our own group that we do this. We all grew up together and although it seems mean spirited it's just the way we are with each other.

Aw, that seems a really interesting tradition. In my country, we don't have anything quite like this. What is kind is similar is the bride kidnapping. The male wedding guests "kidnap" the bride and bring it to a distant place in the venue. The groom has to find her, and he could only get her back if he completes a task. It can be anything, it depends on the mentality of the guests... it could be something really sucky or embarrassing like I don't know, drinking champagne out of the bride's mother's shoes (I personally hate these cheap ones), or more sophisticated ones, like writing or just reciting a poem or dancing to a weird song....

Oh the stealing of the bride. They do that too here sometimes, with permission from the groom, but they go bar hopping to a few bars and are usually back in an hour. We stole the groom my roommates wedding.

Are some of those older traditions? Anything fun as listed above?

I never did and never will. I don't like or see the need of this kind of "humour". I assume it depends on the culture plus family/friends if the bride and groom will be pranked or?

The prank goes back a few years. Not everyone does it. Our group of friends though...well we go to the extremes so if you're going to do a job we do it right. At least we make it memorable! Actually, everyone is a pretty good sport about it, with the exception of one couple as listed above. We did kind of go over the top removing the fuses and moving he furniture around.
