seriously, the person who suggested this and the person who gave the go signal for this should be checked for mental stability. whatever happened to commonsense? the people who take the mrt even though it is packed like a can of sardines most of the time have only one thing in mind, get to their destination on time. regardless if they sacrifice life or limb, or their sanity or their personal hygiene... what is important is that they get to their destination on time and the mrt is the only way to do it. i took the mrt for a good part of my working life. i've had my own experiences about taking the mrt and believe me not all of these are good. to my mind, when i need to get to quezon city and i'm coming from the south, my best bet will be to get a ride at the mrt. no question about it... no second thoughts... if i want to get on time, the mrt is my personal time space warp. so i was flabbergasted that someone in his or her right mind will offer such a ludicrous idea. the.worst.idea.ever. i'm relieved that they scrapped the plan altogether but hey, the mrt bus line was good for a few laughs but no one is laughing.

yeah you are right the idea is very funny and stupid.... we're taking MRT to avoid the killer traffic of EDSA, even if it cost our lives to ride the MRT hehehee. but weird though no one is laughing to this ridiculous idea.

hi sheillaG0623! yeha, talk about not using one's common sense. instead of solving the actual problem, the people at mrt management is contributing to an existing one. what they should do is to add more coaches to the mrt trains and to add more trips during these times. i know it is easier said than done but we already knwo what political will can accomplish. this is no different. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

Count me in, I've no idea as well. But as reading this discussion I guess they proposed to make a bus line which defeats the whole idea of taking the train? Is that it? Well please enlighten us more thank you :)

@ simplyd and offlimits, yeah, it is about the planned mrt bus line. mrt management had the 'bright' idea to have buses transport people who want to take the mrt. thsi will be done during rush hours and the pick up points will be north avenue and quezon avenue and the drop off points will be ayala, magallanes, and pasay taft stations only. this is to address the overflowing crowd at mrt stations during rush hours. people troop to mrt stations for a reason, that is to take the mrt during rush hours and to avoid the traffic in edsa. now, the mrt management offers a solution in the form of mrt buses... that is a clearly not the solution but rather would also contribute to the traffic problem in edsa. worst.idea.ever.

That would indeed be a worse way of lessening the traffic if ever. Besides, people would be late for work when they ride in a bus rather than take MRT. I would prefer standing in a MRT but not be late at work, than be comfortable in a bus but would be late.

Most probably it is their idea of somehow monopolizing that specific public transport since there have been a lot of reported violations by bus operators. That must be just the reason behind it. If I were them, I would just stick with the MRT itself - Make more improvements with the kind of service they provide for the people.

hi jenny. you do make a point but if that was their real reason then they should have said it outright. it just doesn't make sense to not divulge that to the public. i agree with you 100% about the need for the mrt management to improve the services that they provide. they can start by adding more coaches to trains or at least adding more trips to ensure that more people are transported. thanks for participating. cheers!!!

It is not about hygiene but also about the innovative idea which they are coming up with and altogether it is just yet another disaster in the making

When I started to work right after college, I am your typical broke yuppie. The MRT was my only "salvation" coming from our ouse in Cubao going to our office in Makati. It's cheaper and faster than any other available mode of transportation for me at that time. But omg, the agony and sacrifices. I have been a victim of pickpockets there, getting felt up, thrown my back the wrong way and a few bruises and sprains. What were those people thinking?

I usually avoid trains that are obviously crowded and canned sardines to keep myself from being congested. most specially, getting pick pocketed. another solution for me is that i put my bag on the front always and never at the bag containing my cellphone and wallet. some people never learn by keeping a huge wallet at the back except that some uses chains now.

This is true! from what I heard in the news, they went on doing it as a test. But i do not see the point of that test, it made many of its passengers upset plus it doesn't make a sense to think that it will be more convenient to ride a bus rather than the train if you are to travel along the heavy traffic of EDSA.

hi allen you shuld see the Orange County Transit district buses as they cut back instead of adding and now at peak hoers people are stuffed in them so tightly if the bus had to slam on its brakes someone will be badly hurt.,. Now they run once an hour which also makes it bad and fares have gone up to add to the discomfort of riding the damned buses.

hi hatley. its the same thing here in the philippines. buses are packed like sardines during rush hours. it doesn't help that drivers are reckless and they do not adhere to traffic rules. another problem is the traffic!!! major thoroughfares look like packed parking lots with the bumper to bumper traffic. it's either you lose your time because of the traffic jams or you lose your life or limb because of accidents.

Hello Allen0187, Well because it's METRO RAIL TRANSIT and not Metro BUS Transit, they should just make more trains and then connect some parts of the station. probably add more bridge like rails rather than putting up with making a make belief bus transport that would be better than any rail transport. I think the person who come up with this idea should indeed get fired from work.

Same thing here in Mexico, Buses are cheap to ride here. And in a 32 passanger bus you can see 80 people piled in them.

hi maria. yeah, overloading is indeed a problem here in manila as well. in trains, buses, and jeepneys, the scene is the same... people piled in these vehicles like sardines in a can. teh mrt is actually a train service in manila and it is cheap and fast so a lot of people prefer to ride the mrt over the bus and jeeps. to resolve the overcrowding in mrt stations and trains, the mrt management suggested launching a bus line service as well. it just doesn't add up... if peopel prefer to ride the bus over the train, they wouldn't risk life and limb just to take the mrt. what a big joke this mrt bus service is??!!!

You know why? because it is cheap. Here the subway train ride is very expensive. When I was working in the Philippines, a part of my salary goes in the maintenance and sustenance of LRT and MRT in a form of tax. I was taking LRTs and MRTs to to Manila area however that's very seldom I felt bad when I see foreigners riding in the MRT and LRT thinking that I am paying partly of their ride. (No racial discrimination here please don't take it that way). Here the ride is very expensive, meaning the government is not subsidizing a portion of it. so fair and equal, Thai locals and Foreigners pay same. No taxes were spent for it.
