I have always love growing plants. I will always be looking for growing various kinds of plants from cacti, roses to flowering trees. I love watching them grow and flower.
Recently I went to the market for buying vegetables. I was apalled by the quality of the vegetables that were selling at the market. And this is the place where the middlemen bring the vegetables from the farmers and distribute it to the vendors from all over the city. This is the wholesale market, what we call Mandi in India. Well the quality was really poor.
This made me think seriously about growing the vegetables at home. Though I dont have a big garden or a land around my house as I live in an apartment, but I do have a biggish balcony with the grill put on. I am usually growing plants in pots kept in the space between the edge of the wall and the grill.
How many of you have actually tried your hand at a vegetable garden? Please advice me on this.

I have enough space around my house to grow whatever I want. We used to grow vegetables in the past but there were far too many. We do have several fruit trees, flowering bushes, lawn etc.

I envy your luck. I would have loved to have enough space around me. And we have a wierd rule in our country, if you dont have a farmer in your ancestry then you cant buy an agricultural land and get into farming. I do have a few flowering bushes in my house.

We bought our land years back when it was cheap and only built our house and developed the garden much later. Gardening is my passion.

If there is a will there is a way. Yes, it is always possible to grow your own vegetable garden. If you don't have big lot for this purpose, you can always plant on pots.
It is always advisable to plant your own veggies. It is 100 percent organic so you are free from chemicals. Besides, you save money and timer also. You don't need to go to the market when you need veggies for your cooking. You just have to go to your garden and harvest. Isn't that cool? Also this assures you that what you eat is always fresh. Maintaining a vegetable garden is one hobby that gives lots of benefits indeed.

I grow some of my veggies at home. Not everything is a great success, but I still like it. This summer, I grew enough basil to make pesto for the whole year for my two daughters, my helper and myself. I also had a reasonable amount of green beans, some tomatoes (had to buy some) and enough chard for the whole season. The zuchinni did not work. It seems that the seeds weren`t good. Most of these veggies were grown in containers.

Hello anuraa,
I am in Kerala and "Roof Gardening" is very popular here. It is a pleasant scene to view persons taking care and watering their plants at morning or evening. Certainly it brings some profits too to many families.

My dad and my brother have vegetable garden in my home town. They usually have mustard or cabbage in the garden, and when it's summer they will have corn. My favorite moment when it's time to harvest the corn. We will invite some neighbour and have grilled corn at night and make camp fire.
