Misplacing Things

Have you ever put some thing away thinking I'm putting this here so I can find it? Then you want to find that item and can't remember where you put it. You know you put it some where you'll remember it, but you can't. You're going over every scenario in your mind of where you might have put it that you'll remember it. You give up looking for the item and then you find it and you think to yourself, oh yeah, that's where I out it so I would remember! But apparently it wasn't in a very good place because you forgot!

Hi Oh yes I am the Queen of forgetfulness. What I find too if I am talking on the phone and I cant remember the word I want to use, usually my friends are in the same boat we finish each other sentences. Crazy as this sounds I was watching a program and they said most people who walk through a doorway 9 times out of 10 will forget what they were thinking. Just what us forgetters need. I blame mine on menopause or as my husband calls it MENTAL PAUSE.

I like that "mental pause"! Or I contribute it to being a mom, you're always having to remember where each kid's thing is, I don't know. Thanks for responding!

It happens to me all the time! Having problems with my short term memory because of having multiple sclerosis doesn't help either. I'll put a piece of paper in a 'safe' place, which I promptly forget about, and then unearth it when I clean up. Happened just the other day-my boyfriend has been after me to clean up our computer desk, so because our computer wasn't even on, I decided to do it. I did manage to throw a few things out, but it's just a cleaned-up, dusted, piles of papers everywhere that make no sense kind of mess now; the dust bunnies have been vanquished!

Oh, yes the "safe" place, it's so safe, you can't even find it! Usually when I finally find it, I realize the reasoning of why I put it in a "safe" place. But when I'm searching for it, I have different ideas about the "safe" place! Thanks for responding1

yes i was just talking with the kids about that last month. i gave coco a bath and i looked every where for her brush in places i usually put it and she was laying on the bed looking at me like i was crazy and expecting her brushing since thats the only thing she really likes about her grooming finally i just dried and petted her a while then 2 days later im looking for something else and there it is in the top drawer where i had looked 3 times for it before!! im discussing it then with my daughter and she said the same thing about a pair of pants she has. so i was saying, " maybe the "borrowers" really exist?" lol

Now there's a good theory...the "borrowers"! So, it must be the "borrowers" too when you can't find the other sock when you're putting your clothes away! I always thought the dryer was eating them! Thanks for responding!

I do that ALL the time. I will decide to put something somewhere so I will be able to find it, then it's gone. I usually don't find things until I'm out hunting for something else I've lost.

That is common and i personally attribute this sort of behavior to mental illness and getting so worked up and even forget tiny things

You could be onto something there natliegleb, because I suffer from anxiety. My anxiety really kcks in, when I know I put some thing some where and then can't find it. Thanks for responding!

All of us suffer that "syndrome." regardless of age, people tend to forget where they place those things. The funny thing is, you cannot really find it when you really need it but when you're not looking for it anymore, then there it is! I even scold my kids for not remembering where they place their things and even ask me if i did see them. How do they expect me to answer that when I cannot even find my own things myself!?

I have that problem. For instance, I bought a package of mixed nuts last week, and I was about to throw away a large container. So when I unpacked the groceries, the package of nuts dropped into the large container so of course I could not find them. I asked my friend if I left them in the car, but they could not find them. Then I went to the store to pick up a sympathy card for my sister-in-law who had just passed away and I thought maybe I should ask one of the cashiers if I had left the package of mixed nuts by mistake. And decided not to. Yes I found them in that large container. Put them in the fridge and threw the container downstairs.

I know what you mean. I try to retrace my steps, but that doesn't always work.

I'm constantly putting things in "a safe place"... so safe, that even I can't get at it. I think we've all done this at one time or another.

I have two rings....one I put away until I could get it fixed...the other was my dad's wedding ring.....and I put them someplace special and can't find them. The one ring has been missing for about 25 years....I never found it back. My dad's ring....no clue what happened to it. I thought it was one place.....never found it back!

Yes I have done this more times than I can count and it is so frustrating to say the least! Lol. My husband does the same thing too. The other day it was the van keys. He swore he put them on our night stand but he didn't. He could not think of where he put them. We were searching for over an hour. Then he says, wait I forgot to empty my pockets can you look in them for me? So I did, yup the jeans in the washing machine right in the front pocket! Ugh.

I misplace things occasionally well it's just that I don't have much time to remember where I place things I'm a busy person so I usually do work almost all the time and stuff so you know it's kind of hard to recall where I place this and that.

hi there.. I experience this kind of situation maybe a week ago. I barrow my moms wedding ring just to see my fingers with a wedding ring on it. After several hours, I didn't notice that I am wearing a ring, then I cook and remove the ring and put it somwhere. I'm sure that I put a thing somewhere. During the night, my mom ask me where is her wedding ring, I remember that I barrowed her wedding ring, when I look into my fingers I was shocked that it was'nt there. I told my mom that I don't know where it is now, I asked her if I laready gave it to you. I told her that I am sure that I put it somewhere, then I keep on looking til midnight and the other day. Then i give up looking for it, my mom told me that it's ok because she will clean the house that she might find it. And after 5 days, poof! it just appear in front of my face. Then that time I realize that I put it there. I was worried a lot because it was my moms wedding ring, but after I found it, my mind and heart are at peace now. So that' s my story. Thank you. Good day.

OMG that is the story of my life. I have been doing lots of spring cleaning and its just amazing all the stuff I am finding. Stuff that I had put away as it was something that was important but when I actually needed it I could not remember to save my life where I put it. When my daughter was much younger she would take off the battery covers on her toys and then not put them back on needless to say I have been coming across those and it seems that most of the toys that they went to I no longer have since they did not have the battery covers any more. Its funny how we do things like that and then forget all about them. My husband and my daughter laugh at me cause they know when I have misplaced something and cant find it. Needless to say it usually ends with me just buying a new one since I cant remember what I did with the other one that I put in such an important place.

My kids always wear different costumes every year to celebrate the school's Foundation day. So I have told myself that I will keep it in a place where I would remember it. Coz sometimes, my sister in law's son would be needing costumes, too, so she need not buy a new one. And guess what, I kept it real hard, I could even remember if I had that specific costume or not! I found the costume 2 months after! Now I know i am getting real old!

I experience this some time ago. I hid money amongst my things. After a week, when i try to find it , i cannot find it anymore. So i ransacked my things and at the middle of it, i remembered where i placed it. Memoray gap!

Hi jodee! Oh yeah! I am also forgetful. Here is another example of my being forgetful aside from misplacing things. I went to the kitchen for example to get something. When I reach the kitchen, I don't know what I am doing there. I need to go back to where I came from and trying my best to recall why I go to the kitchen in the first place. Have a great day!

Many times. When I am busy or am going to leave in a hurry for any urgent work,I put my books, notebooks, any documents or anything else at a place that I forget later. They say I am an absent minded person, and I don't think they are wrong.Recently I was looking for my glasses everywhere I could think I might have put it,but suddenly my wife told me laughing that I had already wore it.

misplacing stuff is my forte, I always leave my things everywhere, and then forget about it, and when I need it already... I can't remember it already...
