Next week (Tuesday to Friday) sees the annual pilgrimage of racegoers to the jumping Mecca that is the Cheltenham Festival.
The week sees unfortunate withdrawals in the form of the awesome Big Bucks (World Hurdle)and Imperial Commander(Gold Cup).
Despite these two colossal omissions, there is still plenty to savour with Hurricane Fly (Champion Hurdle), Quevega (Mares Hurdle-probably), and the mouth-watering duel between Simonsig and Overturn in the Arkle.
Of course, there are other rising stars in the form of Dynaste (just confirm for the Jewson's Novices) and the climax that is the Gold Cup on Friday. That should be close between the three favourites: Bob's Worth, Silvianaco Conti and returning Irish raider Sir Des Champs. Of course you can never write off former winner Long Run who has NEVER finished out of the first 3 in any of his races. A lively outsider here could be the temperamental, but hugely talented,Captain Chris at a big price.
There are far to many horses to mention here given that there are 27 races over the 4 day feast, but my highlight would undoubtedly watching the imperious Sprinter Sacre who I am sure is THE superstar of the entire meeting. If you only watch one race from Cheltenham on TV next week make it the Queen Mother Champion Chase and marvel at this freak of nature -he is quite simply AWESOME....and the best looking freak you will ever see

I have never been so bored in my life as the day that I went horse racing. What makes it such a 'spectacle'? Just an excuse to gamble from what I could see and force horses to run around when they'd rather be grazing. Sorry to be so negative but the idea of four days of this hell makes me shudder. Horses for courses I guess!
