In India there is an apparant increase in poverty. Many people have left their villages and come to the cities with their families to make it big and live on roads. SOme of these families sell bunches of roses and Gerberas.
Yesterday as I was driving, I had to wait at the signal. There was this small kid selling bunch of roses. I bought two and they were beautiful. I love roses in bunches and usually buy them at the signal or at the flower shop at the petrol pump where I refuel.
Which flowers would you put a bunch of in the vase and display it on the table or somewhere in the house.

do you know what I have in mind while reading your story? I was thinking you buy different sort of flowers.. on different street children selling in streets. Until you reach home and put all those flowers in a vase...

It is sad that in India there is an increase in poverty. There is not much work available in rural areas to folk come to the cities to try to make a living maybe selling things. I feel sorry for the little kid selling the bunch of roses. It is lovely you bought some. I really like roses, tulips, carnations and daffodils. Today is Mother's Day. I have a vase of beautiful yellow daffodils and a vase of a stunning mixed flowers. Wow! I display them on my lounge window sill.

I love tulips. They're expensive from where i'm from and i could hardly see them in a flower shop. Malaysian mums are pretty to look at in different colors. I remember my husband giving me a bunch of that many years ago on valentine's day instead of roses.

I love roses too. The baby pink and the red roses are the best I can find. But when it comes to putting them in the vase I would prefer tulips and bluebells are are really cute to look at and kind of smell good too. it lifts up your mood. so reduces the doctor's bill sometimes... what say?

I think all countries have that same scenario. here in the Philippines you can also see some of them. They left their hometown hoping to seek good fortune in the city only to be scattered on the big streets begging for food.
Nowadays, the government wish to clean the streets with these street people because of the threat and dangers they are facing when they are out of the streets.

That was a very kind, caring act you did, most people would have ignored that small kid or seen him a nuisance and certainly wouldn't have bought anything of him. Many years ago we used to have people ask you to buy heather, as it was deemed as lucky, they were usually romany women. I actually like heather, but I don't see it often. I would definitely buy a bunch of daffodils, they look lovely in a vase, brightens up any room!

Thank you Wolfie34. Actually I feel sad for these kids. They should be in schools enjoying life and studying but instead they are here, in the traffic, risking themselves and selling.
Daffodils. That is something that we dont find much in India. I had seen Tulips once. But they were way too expensive as they were imported.

I am with p1ke..Roses and or/Hyacinths..and then I have some Irises that have a pretty heady perfume! AH...I just love flowers, and the more odiferous..the better! Have two special roses, that I love; "St.Joseph's Coat" as it is multi-colored, oh so spectacular...and Silver Anniversary..pungent, and opens a Royal Purple, and fades to a silver mauve! Can't wait for them to bloom in my side of the world!!!!!

Oh Yeah! I love the Hyacinths too. The water hyacinths stay for months with their sweet fragrance. I love them. St Joseph's coat and Silver Anniversary sound very interesting. The problem here is that we have very limited choice of roses - for buying cut flowers or a sapling.

it was very noble of you to buy from the child street vendor. here in the Philippines buying from street vendors is discouraged cause it can be the cause of traffic jams or accidents but there are still many who ply their wares on the streets.
pink roses are my favorite flowers and i would love to put them in vases and have them displayed on the dining table or the altar.

Hello anuraa,
Actually poverty in India is a bit lessened recently. It was more hectic a few years back. But still there is it.
I too love to see roses in bunches or flourished in gardens...that too in various colours of red, pink, rose, yellow etc.

I think it was great for you to buy flowers and I think you should try to help the others. I think there are lots of people who comes to live in cities from village in India and is trying hard to support themselves. I also sometimes wishes that something can be done to remove their poverty.
