We hear Water Hyacinths and all we can think of is that it is a weed, once in the water, they are out of control. They host pests and can be reasons for spread of certain diseases if left on its won. But they have their uses. Apart from being environmentally useful by cleaning the industrial waste water and taking cyanide out, it also is harvested for gaining fibers. These fibers are woven or interlinked together to form a braid or cord used for making bags, footwear, wreaths, hats, vases, Christmas lanterns, and more decorative materials. Dried stems can and are used for making baskets and furniture. Water hyacinth fibers are used as a raw material for making paper.
But what attracts me to the Water hyacinths are the flowers. They are beautiful and they smell awesome. They stay on the plant fresh for months. Even as flowers in the vase, they can stay for a long time.

My Koi love them so much that the plants keep shrinking in my pond. People told me the plant would take over my pond and that won't happen now. The plants did bloom and its a beautiful flower.
