Why do people start doing things and never finish what they were doing

This drives me mad when people start and never finish a job, join a site only because another person has and then do not return to it, write a list of things to do and never do them. I hate hearing from people that they are going to finish a job that they have started and they never get around to it, so then it is up to you to finish the things that they have started. I thought it was only men that start things and never finish them, but women are the same, but not as bad if you ask me.

I also think may be it is annoying and most probably the person will feel annoyed when people whom they give tasks does not finish them. I hope they understand it and finish the task.

I think that some people tend to lose concentration on what they are doing and that is sometimes why they do not finish what they have started. Other people I think tend to drift off and do other things that they enjoy doing like going on the internet, or watching tv.

I agree that it annoys me as well when someone starts a project and does not finish it, or does not finish it on time and I have to pick up the slack. I do notice that my home "to do" list takes back seat priority to work to do lists. I know that this annoys my husband at times, but I am still new in my job, and until I feel that I have some sense of security at my job, I am going to make sure those projects take a priority.

I hate the tasks that never end. AT home that is laundry. It seems like I have it ALL done, and then it is there again. Especially with a toddler in the house, and a husband that works out every day there is always laundry to be done.

I feel that no matter what some people start they never really finish it.I hate leaving things that I have started even if it something that I do not like doing, as in the end they have to be completed. I hate decorating and I remember once I hurried to complete decorating the bedroom and it looked awful, so I had to redo it all over again.

My sister's that way with reading. She find a book that looks very interesting and start reading it. Before she's finished, she'll find another book that looks interesting and will but the first book sway to read the second book. The house if full of half read books.

good day joystick, i have encountered a lot of people with this type of attitude. and with the recent job that i am having, i have an officemate who is like this. he will start things but will not finish it immediately. hence, it will take days before he will do it. but, even if he does it, still i need to check it as instructed.

I hate it when people say that they are going to finish some thing that they have started and they never either get to finish what it was that they were doing, or rush what they were finishing and it was not right when they had done.

I don't know, but it happens to everyone. I guess it's really a dedication or motivation to do it. Or something that drives them to do it or rather an urge.

One thing I have learned from my high school teacher is the value of finishing what you have started. She always reminded us, her students, that if we are not sure of what we are doing, we better stop as well. These are two opposing ideas I think. But this rings true because why would you start something that you aren't sure of? It is just fine when one does not finish the job as long as he does not bother anyone. That is really going me mad too if I am the one to finish what he did first!

Hi there. There are things people start doing and that is because they think they can do it but something would come up and then they would just be too lazy to go back to where they have left off. It happens and even at work it is like that too and some just starts a project and never got around to doing more and finishing that too. I think it happens because people get too excited about anything at the beginning alone. Same as what they are doing in everything b they encounter on their own.

I also think it is good for people to finish what they start. I think lots of people does not finish what they start. I think is a habit. When people tries to finish what they start on first task most probably they will do it on the second task. I think when it comes like a habit people will finish what they task. I always try to finish what I start.

I am like you, I try to finish all the things what I start, even if it is something that I do not like to do. I do feel that it use to be a male thing, but now I feel that women can be just as bad. I hate to start things that I know I am going to hate doing, but I always tend to finish what ever it is.

I think that all of us occasionally start something and never finish with it from time to time. However, I know exactly what you mean about getting started with a job or a chore and never getting it completed. My husband is one of those people when it comes to things at home and it really does drive me insane that he does those kinds of things. For example, he redid our bathroom before we moved into the house and yet several years later he has still not put the trim back in.

lol I think men and women both are equal in this respect, not finishing a work that already started is not good, but it might have various reasons behind; that nedd to be considered. Thanks for this discussion

for me i will feel annoy if someone will never finish what they starts then i will be the one to finish it,but in work of course employees don't have the choice or they couldn't never accept it because that is usually order from the above.

It's because sometimes we loos interest and excitement on what we are doing. Sometimes I experience the same, making list or plan and never finish it because I found myself feel bored.

I also don't like it when people would start something then won't finish it. It speaks highly of their personality and definitely not someone I would want to work with again. Mostly people who do this just plunge in into something they do not even understand. That is why I always tell my friends or colleagues that they should know what they're getting themselves into before they get themselves committed to something.

This can be me, LOL cos I started a Blog, but I didn't finish, and yet I started another blog, but I didn't finish, maybe I got boredom on doing those things that made me feel that, "I'm gonna continue this tomorrow" until I forgot what I should finish LOL, and sometimes, I dont have enough time to continue what i've started,
11 Mar 13
I confess, I do that too, but then I start from a different set of beliefs, that it is better to try something and fail at it than not to try it at all. So I think testing something out to see if it works for me is ok. Though, with websites, or blogs, even, I do sometimes join them, then do nothing, and then go back to them. So we people who start things and don't finish them aren't all bad.

I think yes, it is not bad, but when we are on the real job, I guess we need to finish that exactly on earlier than the expiration date that they given to use to finish the job that they gave

maybe that is why only a few people can get success people who are willing to success often finish what they had begun and try to do all the things on the list

This happens to me too. I have joined many sites because of my friends but i never got time to surf them.I also get bulk mails from these sites which i hate the most. Sometimes people dont do what they have started due to look of enthusiasm and determination.Over a period they lose their interest. I think finishishing a job with perfection and determination is very necessary.

One most probable reason for this is the lack of "true interest". The enthusiasm is there in the beginning because of the thought that "it's fun". People should know the difference of these two words and know how to correctly identify things under these. One thing more is the lack of motivation and inspiration.

This is related to the Syndrome called ADHD which means Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.Where in you became so interested on one thing and then focus on this. And then when you find another one which is more interesting on this.then you became less interested with the older one.and then you almost forgot then you are now focus on the new one.It is unintentionally. It is a syndrome. they also tested the brain of those normal people than people who have ADHD. and this was not known by most people they thought it's only a bad attitude or habit but they haven't know its a disease. Just like my daughter. She will become focus in one thing then later on she will forget that once she found new one. IT also ruins in genes just like my case.so hope you understand too and be familiar with ADHD people.. thanks foropening this discussion.

Actually, i'm one of them... based on my experienced... At first, i'm so excited then work, work, work afterwards you're tired... then suddenly you're bored on what your doing and the next day you want to quit or stop, i admit its not good to be like this. Maybe for me, it would be better if you have somebody to work with or don't just be by yourself, or maybe lack of interest, inspiration i guessed there's a lot of reason but the thing i learned is that never quit and don't be lazy as simple as that... =)
