We've been thinking forever to get rid of our landline. However we have no idea since our DSL is thru the phone company would we need to keep the land line anyway to get just DSL? I only really talk on the phone to my Aunt and to my MIL well the IL's will be moving in a few months so really the only person who'd be calling would be my Aunt. However, some weeks she's on the phone everyday if not multiple times a day or not at all. But if I could increase my cell plan to the next level of minutes for $10 a month it would be a difference of $25 a month

Yeah we got a new high speed modem. We don't use our landline at all and don't get charged for it.

I canceled my landline years ago when I found out that it wasn't required for the DSL connection from my phone company. You'll definitely want to ask your phone company how canceling the landline is going to affect your monthly bill. We had a bundle discount when we subscribed to both phone and internet service. Although losing the bundle discount meant we paid more for the internet service, our total bill is still about 1/3 less than what we were paying every month.

Okay we have DSL but we don't pay for a phone line. As long as we don't call out we won't be charged. We can receive calls and call 911 at no charge. We don't even bother having our phone hooked up. We use our cells. We like our DSL high speed and probably won't change.

You can contact your provider and tell them of your needs. In our case, we told them that we only need the Internet connection and since we have other plans for our mobile phones, we would be needing the landline that much at all. So they just provided us with a dsl plus cable connection. It is cheaper for a bit but I would have taken it either way because I would rather pay for the same amount as long as we can utilize the services than have something in the plan that we cannot really put to use.

Land lines are not needed to function in life. You can easily increase your cell phone plan to accommodate your needs. And now DSL does not need a phone line thru most companies. There are so many options out there for example the cell phone companies offer internet options, cable companies have options. You just have to check it out and weigh your options.

What I do know, based on my sister in law's experience, he had her landline cut and now just have the DSL. Her husband just got mad at her for constantly on the phone. She doesn't work. But she has lots of "small businesses" from selling properties to designer bags, jewelries and as an agent for finding cars for rent to be used in TV soaps and movies. So now, she just rely on her cellphone. With the unlimited call and text plan that she now have, it works better for her now.
