Hey guys, I'm currently now on a study abroad program in London. I have been here only for 1.5 months but have already gained 3kg. I feel like i can't stop eating and I'm hungry the whole day. Back in Singapore, i am not really a fan of chocolates, yet when i'm here in London, i just can't stop eating chocolates and i'm always craving for more chocolate. Anyone encounter the same thing before? I really wanna slim down cause i feel my belly is bulging out already? Any tips so i can stop myself from the cravings?

Hi, London has cooler climate than in tropical countries. I think it is the cool temperatures that caused the eating frenzy. If I overeat, I make it a point to burn it up by being active, like walking for two three kilometers, biking, or any other physical activities that can be done given the circumstances. It is a simple, foolproof way to compensate for the large caloric intake. Otherwise, self-discipline is the only way to maintain that ideal weight.

Hey rog, thanks for replying. Ever since i know that i have gained weight, i have stopped taking the bus to the tube station, since it is only 2 stops away. So since like 3 weeks ago, i stopped taking the bus and when i go to work, instead of taking the life, i take the stairs. I'm working on the 6th story so i guess that is helping me to burn some extra calories. However, i think these little calories that i ate is still not enough. And yes, thanks for reminding me that self-discipline is the only way and it is the best way. I really need to start to discipline my daily calories intake! Hey here and there, thank you for replying and i really love your username. are you trying to say that i should try to do other activities so i will not think about food?

yes, i think it's a combination of the change in climate plus what marguicha alluded to, anxiety or stress or still adjusting to new surroundings without your usual support group like family and friends. maybe is he/she indulged in other activities, it would help.

You should stop eating chocolate immediately, friend. If not, you'll be fat. And it's very difficult to lose your weight. Throw all chocolate from your room and avoid them as far as possible. You can eat vegetable if you feel hungry.

Well, you do know that our food is full of chemicals and the chemicals make you crave more chocolate? It happens with a lot of our junk food, unfortunately. At least if you bought some cocoa (and other ingredients) to bake a cake you can control how sweet it is. With shop-bought chocolate - well, we don't know how much sugar is in there, do we?

If you bought chocolate with more cocoa in it (say, Bournville, for example, it's in a red and gold wrapper) that may be a better chocolate for you than Diary Milk or something like that. My Grandad loved Bournville and it never did him any harm.

Hey Janey, you mean the more i eat, the more i will crave for food and chocolate? I would be happy to bake a cake myself, but it's really troublesome!! But you are right, we won't know how much sugar there is in shop-bought chocolate

Hey Janey, i think I get your idea here that the good chocolates are really good and having a piece or two won't harm us. But the issue with these chocolates, like Bournville is that they are expensive :)

You remind me of my friends who also have studied in UK few months ago. She gain almost 10kg while sheis living there for a year. She said she just can't help but keep craving all the snacks that she can't find in my country. I don't know how to help you, but may be you need piggy bank and when you think of buy a bar of chocolate you can put your money in piggy bank before you end up at store with a bar of chocolate.

Chocolate gives you energy that makes your hunger go at ease then rise up again in short period of time. Which the chocolate contain high amount of sugar and it's not very good for your health if you eat too much of it. It's better to eat like main food, 3 or 4 times per day, and even stay hungry a bit to resist your hunger so eventually you will get used beign hungry and not to try eat many tims per day. You could also do something that catch your attention like hobby to ignore the hunger and eat at a proper time. Drink more water than eating is one way to stop eating more, but I prefer not to drink too much water since the prefered amount of water to drink per day is 2 liters, not more than the actuall amount of water.

Hey sandaikite, you mean if i have chocolate it will give me a short burst of energy but after that i'll feel hungry very fast? Yes, it's really not good to eat alot of chocolate and totally bad for my health. But if i resist my hunger, will i get gastric pains? And you are right, i really should have a regular time for meal rather than relying on my stomach to give me the timing to eat.

Taking a meal everyday is very good for your healt, but resisting it for too long is not good either. I don't mean like you should resist it immediatly, but time to time. Cutting off some of your daily snacks we can say it will be good too, so don't cut all of your snacks all at once because it's better if you take it slow and easy. I'm sorry but I'm not that much familiar with gastric pains. But what is important is that you can cut off some of your snacks evey mounth or less, drink more water, but not too much, more fruits and good luck :)

Actually, I have often heard that things like this are natural when you are traveling, as you often desire to eat more and a lot of it could be nerves being in a new place, etc. I would still try to concentrate more on eating Healthy and like you would at home, but if you can't do what you can and hope for the Best.

Hey Krausehome, So you think my eating of chocolates is just a natural sign? But i think i would agree with you that it has to do with my nerves for being in a new palce, far away from my family. I will definitely concentrate on eating more healthly. Even if i don't, i still myself another 2.5 weeks to indulge becuase i'm going back home after then :)

If you are tensed you would be eating more. Make sure you are not tensed about the education. Try to eat small portion of food with more frequency and this will help you feel full. I think most probably you can say to yourself will eat after five minutes and stop eating for five minutes and continue this process after five minutes and so and this will help you to do better.

Are you fighting anxiety in any way? I have now a weight problem and will try to make it right. But I will have to fight anxiety. THe three times I ate too much had to do with times with lots of stress. Maybe that is what is happening to you now. If that is it, then probably you can help yourself by managing stress with something else besides chocolates.
