In another extra-ordinary saga, Australia has dropped four players from the 3rd test citing disciplinary reasons. The four players are Vice Captain Watson, James Pattinson, Mitchell Johnson, Usman Khawaja. Their disciplinary breach: they did not provide coach Micky Arthur with a note stating the three improvements that the Australian cricket team needs!! Give me a break!! Is this for real or is the Aussie team disintegrating here? Two of these players did not even play in the match and were sitting for 5 days beside Micky Arthur and he could not get three points on how to improve Australian cricket from them in these five days and then he drops them for not writing a note containing these three points.
I see an implosion coming ahead!!
Cheers!

So, they are axed from third test match based on disciplinary grounds. It's OK, no player is bigger than the game. If coach is asking everyone to provide three points how they can improve, they have to provide. There is cold war going between Watson and coach Mickey Arthur and this doesn't augur well for Australia. If Watson retires as the news are coming, Aussies will be on backfoot before the Ashes starts. I think India should play hard and try to seal the series in Mohali itself. India aim should be to reach no 3 in test.

Anil, I agree that discipline is very good, but we need to figure out whether it is a value add or not. Just enforcing discipline for the sake of showing control is absolutely crazy. And the loss in the 3rd test shows that it was really a crazy move.
Cheers!

Perhaps Australia too are facing similar problems that India faced after 0-4 losses to England in 2011, and 0-4 loss to Aussies last year, and then Indian team too had many differences cropping among the players.

I personally feel that the players should have been granted leniency the first time. If they had repeated this second time, then taking action on grounds of discipline would have been ok.

Hey, I didn't mean that. It was just a co-incidence that I was trying to point out.

Looks too harsh! It is one thing dropping players for not batting or bowling well enough, or for low fielding standards, yet it is another thing being dropped for not filing a report on time!
I do not think it is rational also.

It wouldn't be so bad if they'd been out boozing or something. What a weird thing to be disciplined over!

I don't remember the name but one of the old player from Australia stated after this incidence that Australia is West Indies way, They will soon be at the bottom end of the team listings.

Right decision by the coach. Aussie cricket is all about discipline and the fact that there were many more undiscovered reasons to sack them did bad to their cause.

Actually the fact is that Aussie cricket has never been about discipline. It has been about commitment and never say die spirit but never about discipline. Think of the issues surrounding Shane Warne, Symonds, McGill,Clarke, Mitchell Johnson and so on and so forth. Even the great Ricky Ponting had to cool his heels outside the team for his indiscretions earlier in his career as well.
The only difference has been that the Aussie management has been so far strong enough to handle such difficult characters and keep getting them to perform.
Cheers!

Best thing about old champion Australian team was that personal egos were forgotten on field and hence performance of team never got affected.Current Aussie team lacks that quality so they are falling like pack of cards.Arthur has every reason to get upset as he knew that it will be very difficult to compete in these conditions for Australian team in transition. As a coach of SA he has seen how highly talented SA batting collapsed twice in two series on similar rank turners after taking 1-0 lead.Aussies just made situation bad to worse by fighting like school kids.

But I do not think that you can treat professionals in any industry like you will treat school children meting out punishments to set an example unless something is really detrimental. I do not think not filing your homework is one such instance.
Cheers!
