One popular essay posted by a Korean in face book deals on the cause of poverty in the Philippines. He noted that the reason of poverty in the country is not merely the gross corruption in every branch of our government but the lack of love of many Filipinos for the Land. How would you react to this my fellow Filipino lotters?

I would love to visit the Philippines to go island hopping and snorkeling. I guess the tourist scenes are in different places than where very poor Filipinos live. It is a shame about the corruption.
I live in the United Kingdom. I like the old buildings, sweet looking villages, the green countryside and the beautiful coastlines. Here we have an economical downturn and a large number of people are unemployed.

Yes, maximax8, the Filipinos are quite hospitable, they would even act as tour guides for free, ha ha! Joke lang, jdalaqui.

Yabang. That is the only word I could think of now. And perhaps puro pangsarili.
I used to excuse the Pinoy when they sought refuge from tyranny and education (as in Rizal et al) in foreign lands. I also used to excuse the Pinoy when they tried to escape hunger by securing work as domestic help, even japayuki, and swallowed their pride, so their children would live.
I don't excuse, however, those Pinoy who seek new homes abroad because it is a status, that is unforgivable. Ang yabang nila, and these are the ones who find fault on this country, as if there is nothing good here.
Hmpf, we don't need those Pinoy, let them be second class citizens in the countries of their choice.
To my fellow Filipinos, remember, patriotism is a virtue. And gosh, the Philippines has the best beaches, the best tropical climate, the best cuisine, and the most hardworking and hospitable people in the world.
As for the corrupt, their days are numbered.

Hi eileen!
I agree with you. We see some pinoys abroad who never dared to look back especially some immigrants who had nothing good to say to his country of origin. They are easily blinded by the richness foreign countries offer them only to find out that they are slaves of that foreign land they clamor. The irony is that, those other pinoy who made it big but were never raised in the Philippine soil take pride on being Pinoy.

@eileenleyva and Cherigucchi
One big reason of poverty in our according to my understanding is simply the lack of patriotism on our part. One example for this is putting less value on our own delicious and nutritious boiled banana over a bowl of Korean soap stuffed with artificial flavoring and others. We want to buy our own product cheaply but we are willing to spend more on the foreigner's goods. Again, I used the pronoun we to emphasize nationalistic responsibility.

I really love the Philippines. Maybe there is really some problems with Filipinos though many are the strengths of Filipinos there are weaknesses too such as crab mentality etc. Some are quite dishonest too but it is really true that Filipnos are intelligent and talented. Discipline must also be enforced.

Hi edvc77,
Discipline can be imposed when every Filipino people loves what is best for the whole country. Just imagine how many are destroying our rivers just because they do not want to wait for the garbage collector, they just dump it in canals and water passages not thinking of the effect for the whole community.
