Teaching English online

Last month I started a course (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and am ready to start teaching others now. So I wrote a smal blog, advertised on Craigslist and went flyering in Baguio City. Untill now I got no responses and that makes me real sad cause I really thought many people need to improve their English. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?

What is your rate. If you charge too high before your brand is established, maybe people won't really trust it yet. Make your rate attractive after the words have been spread, it’ll be more easy on you. Try to promote it in some social networking sites like youtube, facebook, twitter. And if student finished the tutoring, do you give out any certificate, many people study English to get a credible and good certificate to help them with looking for job. So using a credible and good certification system will make your service is attractive enough.

Hi ! Wow another English teacher in town. Starting is bit difficult because you need to establish your name but time comes that your name will be known to everybody , you will be the demand teacher and you can demand your price then but for now , you need to work for your name , just take it slow . Everything has its own time. Good Luck !

I would recommend checking out buddyschool.com, and then you can inquire to successful tutors there how they make sales and even buy a spot for minimal cost from the website itself. Some tutors get a lot money there, and the best part is. It is trafficked to a degree so as long as you can be found you'll get orders if you aren't asking a ridiculous price. What I have seen done in the past is people try to offer their service initially free to build up a feedback score on numerous websites, and go from there. You could also try reaching out via Twitter and Facebook. Twitter you could network with those already doing what you want to do and ask them for advice. I can also recommend using Fiverr.com to build up a portfolio some more and perhaps using a free website builder like Wix to build a portfolio page to relay your skills to potential buyers.

I want to do this online too. I am currently tutoring in real time and I don't have problems getting clients because I am renting a small place for this purpose. However, I wonder how one could do this online. I have listened to one tutor at an internet cafe tutoring a Korean kid. I think the key here is to have a contact, someone who will refer you to those who need your service.

Hi Franseman! Have you tried flyering outside schools? There are a lot of Koreans who study in Baguio so maybe that should be your target market. Or ask help from the locals there. Word-of-mouth is a very powerful tool and maybe they can help you spread about your product :) Or try offering a trial period fee first rather than charging your potential student outright. If the student is satisfied, then that's the time you can ask for a particular amount. If not, at least you got a minimal pay. That's better than nothing, right? Just be patient! Success doesn't come overnight :)
