Ok. Confused again.
I usually see prawns cooked but thought for some reason that in a Chinese takeaway I had some raw ones but I dont remember them looking blue.. I have read lots of things since since that it's common in China to eat them raw but then I thought I read the opposite said, well people aren't robots in China so not good to try to define all to behaving the same but it just confused me. I then read on that website Yahoo answers which is usually as accurate as Wikipedia.... that it's because of the plankton prawns feed on that for one reason or another it's a good idea to cook them. I usually or have only had cooked but do you think it is ok to eat them raw, anytime or rarely? Be careful whatever you do, please help me clear up this mystery at last! Thankyou.

Hi,
Some sea foods, in fact, most of them, taste good when eaten raw. Prawns ans their cousins shrimps do taste good with the right preparation and ingredients. The dangers of having bad microorganisms and harmful chemicals may be present but,as stated previously, taking the right precautions in preparing them makes for a safe raw seafood experience. I grew up near the sea and I am used to eat fish and other sea food right from the water with no ill effects.

I have not tried raw prawns in a Chinese dish but I have eaten prawns that are cooked with vinegar and citrus. I don't know if it is also called ceviche, a Mexican dish for raw fish. Prawns are my favorite and I prefer them just slightly boiled or steamed.
