So, earlier today, as many of you probably know, the new pope was elected.
Argentine Berglio from Argentina became Pope Francis the 1st.
It is a great step forward for the church electing someone outside Europe but he is not of Argentinian descent (he is of European descent).
What do people think, will he move catholicism forward or keep it where it is?

Yup, I watch it in the news and read it on yahoo news this morning. Thanks God we have a new one. It's sure is a blessing. I'm sure Pope Francis will be a good pope to guide all Catholics to the right path, with his ways as a simple life. Being the 1st Jesuit, 1st pope to bow to the people, 1st to wear white upon declaring as pope, first to use the name Francis. This will be a great challenge for him and the catholic church.

I am not catholic but they seem having choosen the right man!
It's take a humble man such as Pope Francis to move that church forward.
By reading the media of the Pope for example:
- Wanting walk freely on street greeting people
- Waiting in line to purchase ticket as anybody else
- Not wanting living in a castle (asigned him) but just live in modest place and cooking for himself.
It's take a humble guy to do this and I never seen any pope doing this! This is a proof that He telling he is human being as anybody!
To move church forward, it's take a humble man! He got it that for sure! Let's pray that can get rid some weird teaching by bringing those members to Christ! Amen!

I'm not sure if they really chose the right one, but it is hard to say. He may be humble, but he is still just as discriminatory towards certain groups of people (homosexuals) as the previous pope, which will not help the church move away from that discrimination.
I'm not Catholic either, but I know the bible says not to judge others, and to love your neighbour, no matter who he/she is. It also says God loves everyone, so you would think the church would avoid that kind of discrimination.

What strikes me is that the new pope is 76, why do they bring in Popes of that age, is there a particular reason why they do not choose a younger pope? Don't get me wrong I am not ageist or anything, just plainly curious. I hope he brings in changes for the better.

I am sure that he will do whatever he can to make some changes and to make the Catholic Church stand in a much stronger ground. It may not be easy, but I know that he would not just let things happen to ruin the Church and the Catholic faith.
