Hiding the cat food!

I give my cats 1/4 of a can of cat food twice a day along with their regular dried food that is always out for them to snack on. The other half a can I have to hide in my oven so they won't find it until the time I put it out. I like to feed them just when I'm eating so they won't bother me. I've even had to start opening cans that are for myself in the bathroom so they won't hear the can opening...which I guess they hear anyway because when I come out of the bathroom they are both there looking at me in front of the door. Have you ever had to hide cat food from your cat so he eats it when you want him to and not when he wants it? If so what is the weirdest place you have ever had to hide it?

When we had a cat and a dog, they always knew where the food was in the fridge, so whatever animal it was was right at the refrigerator door, waiting. I seldom used canned cat food because we had one cat at a time and it might spoil. I wonder maybe you should turn on the radio or the cds so they get distracted by the music. Just a suggestion.

So true. Cats and dogs have good hearing and sense of smell, and a too good sense of direction. So maybe hiding the cat food would not help. They could find it no matter where you put it.

I only feed wet food to Pong. I feed him small cans and he eats two of them for breakfast.
The rest of the cats eat the kibbles, but Pong had his teeth pulled.
Now, Taj had his teeth pulled too, but he'll eat the kibbles, but Pong won't.
I agree with WilsonGoddard that if I did have leftovers I would put it in the fridge, but it would for sure spoil around here in Texas.

I remember one of my ex partner's cats, Edward, he was obese, and we had three other cats who had their dishes and we had to make sure they ate their food because Edward had a nasty habit of stealing their food, if that wasn't bad enough we got a call from a neighbour three doors down, apparently Edward had been getting through their cat flap for their cats and pushing their cats out of the way and eating their food! I am surprised he managed to fit through the catflap! In the end it got so bad that the vet recommended putting him in a cage indoors, it was heart-breaking seeing him in the cage when all the other cats had full reign of the house, but it was for his own good, and we had to give him special diet food. We had to make sure everything edible was out of his reach, even dropping something on the carpet we had to pick up straight away or he'd have it.

Canned cat food should be refrigerated once opened. If I'm giving the kids part of a can of food, the rest goes into the fridge until the next meal.
I don't hide food from them. They know where everything is--even their 'nip. It's just that they can't manage to open the refrigerator door to get to their beloved dairy products or manage to navigate to the shelves holding their catnip containers.
Cats are smart, and their senses are far more sensitive than those of humans. They know where you're keeping their food. They also know that they can't get it, so they'll have to wait for you.

I give canned food to my cats twice a day.In the morning and in the evening.During the day I put some dry food in a pot.The can is in the fridge so they can`t eat it.The cats have an amazing biological timer and they are waiting their meal at the exact time.

I feed them one whole can a day so I don't have to hide any.

We used to have a cat who came running any time he hears the can opener. Sometimes, I'd show him that it was people food like green beans, but usually, I'd just laugh at him. Our next 2 cats were fed only dry cat food, so the can opener didn't faze them, nor did they beg at the table.

I usually seal mine in a resuseable container, and put it in the fridge (I buy all natural cat food so it can't be left out as it doesn't have the chemicals in it). But my guys know when the pop in the can, I once got a can of pork n beans, tehy came running until I showed them the tin. I sometimes switch it up and give them pouches and they never come for those.
