I work as an IT Instructor and i came late at night around 11:00 pm because i have night class. When i got home, the first thing i do is to eat and after few minutes i go to sleep. If i'm like that everyday, would that makes me fat.

Maybe you're still young and your metabolism is still fast, I used to be like that in my younger days but as I "age" I notice that I gain more weight and have to exert extra effort to lose weight.
But generally (according to studies), you have to stop eating at least an hour (ideal 2hours) before you go to bed or you will gain weight.

No, eating at night does not make you fat. It all really does come into calories in and calories out (well to some extent-the type of calories do matter-i.e. where are the nutrients coming from). If you have a large meal in your digestive tract and then you go to bed, it will take longer to digest. You will not get fat overnight. A lot depends on your metabolism, the amount of sodium in your diet, how active you are what you are eating (clean food vs. processed foods , etc...The general rule of thumb is to go to bed about two hours after your last meal.

Hi, i can understand the weird class and work timings where we cannot find time to eat. It is just not possible at times. Yes unfortunately it is very bad to eat at night especially the time you have mentioned is just not right at all. Because as you eat you sleep as it is already so late for you to be awake anymore. Can't you find sometime between 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm where you can eat anyways? At night you should cut down your intake of carbohydrates completely. Well even if you have class and when you come back from there see that you eat very lighter meal. Eat just proteins and salads. Before going to your class eat something lighter and healthy that will fill you and not make you much hungry later so that when you come from your class you eat very little. that should not make you fat. See that you completely stop eating carbohydrates at night, they make you fat. Eat proteins like grilled chicken, salad, lentil soup etc they won't make you fat they are good for health.

Eating late at night makes people fat because after some point of time in evening our BMR drops down. So whatever we take turns into fat easily as calorie burn is minimum. But if a process is regular than our body adjusts to that system and the impact is less.

it is better to take your dinner at least one hour before going to sleep. it is not good for health to eat and sleep. I think it will make you fat. you can sit or walk for a while after taking your dinner.

Eating at night with slow metabolism makes you fat. The best way to counter this is to create a workout routine at night. i would recommend some cardio as that is a surefire way to boost metabolism. good luck i wish you the best.

I heard my mom once warn me not to eat too much before I go to bed, because that would make me fat, or a big belly. I never experience it, because I don't eat that much before I go to bed though. She read it from the magazine or newspaper, so it might have some scientific fact behind this theory. So, trying to avoid to do so.

It depends what you eat I use to work afternoons 3 to 11 pm and when I would come home I was so hungry but I know it is hard to digest certain things so I would have a healthy bowl of cereal, it was easy to digest and also filling and very healthy.

no eating during the night time dosen't makes you fat but eating and directly going to sleep does makes you fat.
so always have a walk for about five minutes of slow walk after your lunch and dinner.

From Weight point of view yes it does, but i don't think it's a big deal. Simply try to keep it light maybe a fruit salad or something like that. Don't go making pork chops, if you know what i mean :P haha
But from Health point of view, its not good to eat at least the last hour before going to sleep. Basically what you sleep your body performs most of the Repairing/Regenerating/fixing you up/rejuvenating because it doesn't have to waste energy on other things(walking, talking, looking, moving your feet, hands etc etc.). So because the functions your body has to perform are cut by at least 50% while you sleep comparing to while you're awake. Your body can now take that energy to make you better (closing wounds, performing differend tasks in the body).
But when you eat at night and then go to sleep, your body needs to Digest(Extra work). Also when the food you ate get's difested, and the nutrients your body could utilize from that are taken, the "Waste" gets stuck in your "colon" area. And they stay there until you wake up creating a toxic enviroment, and making it harder for your body to do it's job of making you better and waking up Fresh and rejuvenated.
So my main concern would be health rather than weight with the eating before bed thing... :)
