Our middle cat, Callie is pregnant so I guess I'm going to be a cat grandma sometime in the next few weeks. You see, I really am a big advocate on having our pets spayed or neutered, but this was something that Tom and I fought about when it came to Callie because he says that it is a good experience for children to have a pet that has babies at some point in their lives. We reached a compromise that we'd wait until she was two years old before we had her spayed. We were just weeks away from getting her spayed when we found out that she is pregnant. For me this is the first time that I've ever had a pregnant pet so it is a brand new experience. We did get her kitten food to eat as that is something that is good for both her and the kittens. However, beyond that I have no clue at all what to expect or what else we need to do for her.

aaawww. sounds like you are in for a happy experience. Tom really must be a very sweet man to suggest this. Just keep her safe and comfortable and try not to interfere to much when its her time unless shes having a very hard time. she will lay around and pant a lot on the day she coming into labor. may even refuse to eat. some do that. just saying , dont panic. hope shes going to be fine.

you also may want to make sure you keep her in the house and not let her roam outside. cause she may not be as quick to get away from dogs and such. plus she may go under something out there to have the babies in private

Yeah, I'm trying to keep her in the house as much as possible, but that isn't working out nearly as well as I would like for it to because the kids are always quick to let her out when she wants to go outside.

I don't think there's much you need to do.. she'll take care of it herself when the time comes. It's kind of an insticntual thing.. she should know to clean them off as they're born.. if not you may want to use a soft rag to clean their eyes and nose so they survive.

Yeah, that should be the only interference that we might have to give. Everything that I've read says that a Momma cat is usually able to do it all by themselves.

Give her a private place to have them, and keep her there, or she'll have them on your shoes or the middle of your bed. I've also had a limited experience with cats having kittens...

That is one thing that I've done. I would absolutely hate it if she was to have her babies on my bed.

I agree with yhour husband and it is going to help teach your children so mnay things. Just make sure she has her own place to have them or else she will be pacing around and then choose a place. When she is in labour make sure she is in that place and cannot get out to give birth on your bed or something

I am definitely making sure that she has her own space to give birth to the kittens. I honestly can't wait to see the lessons that the kids are going to learn from the kittens and their birth.

I'm guessing that the kittens should be here really soon and when they are, I will be sure to share a picture of the new babies in our household.

Oh! That's cute. Having kittens in your home just feels wonderful. I already had kittens in my house before and I'm really fond of them. I suggest you take care of the cat and feed him always. Also give him a nice and soft cloth or bed to sleep.

These are things that I've been making sure to do for Callie. I'm excited about baby kittens, but I'm also afraid that I will get far too fond of them and then when it is time to rehome them that I won't want to get rid of any of them.

Congratulation,,, you have to prepare her bed. I always exciting when my pet will have a baby, but the last time our cat have her baby she did it under my bed and I could not sleep at night because they are always meowing

I know that preparing a bed for her is an important thing. We got a box that we are padding for her and we are in hopes that she will give birth to her babies in the box.

I am very much an animal lover and I do think that I will fall in love with the kittens and when the time comes for them to have a new home that I won't want to give them up.

Our Callie is almost two years old now so she is old enough to be a momma cat. I really do think that she is going to be a good momma too.
