Fatal Policies

I had always been one to fight policies, for policies, most of which I had verbal and written arguments with, do not support human kindness. You hear security guards, clerks, secretaries, branch heads, managers, even directors say: That is company policy or school policy. That only means we cannot help you nor entertain you, so scram the hell out of here. Sigh! Where is the kindness in that?
Well, here's a tragic story of a sixteen year old who found no way out because of a policy. http://ph.news.yahoo.com/up-manila-student-takes-own-life-070555702.html

When i first heard this news on TV last night, i was saddened because she's just a young girl.
And when i read it on yahoo this morning, i felt the pain she felt. I remembered my daughter who graduated from that school.
Though the tuition fees are way lower than private schools, us parents usually would borrow money from SSS , Pag-ibig or company whenever tuition time is coming . So, basically, when our 13th month arrives they are just for paying the loans we had during tuition paying time.
So, i really can feel the hurt of the student specially that her parents weren't able yet to produce it for her.
I think the management of UP should at least give them a grace period, when they weren't able to pay their tuition fees on time.

Policies, most often, is devised for the company, making it difficult for the lesser people to comply with.

Hi there EileenLeyva!
That is just so sad. She was so young. I think that what's sad about it is that the kid may not be able to find anyone to turn to. I am praying for her soul and also for changes in the system that will make way for consideration especially for a school wherein it takes a lot to get into.

I have seen her picture in facebook and it's really sad because she was so beautiful filipina and her face doesn't mark her sadness the way it showed in the television or the news all over the internet. going to college needs both support from the school and from the parents as well. the requirements were simple but some how the parents commitment to give her the requirement she needs was lacking in my view.

I think there is something wrong with the system, because it did push Kristel Tejada to her grave.
The parents, I suppose, did as much as they can to alleviate their poverty. It is helplessness in the midst of such a fast life, the girl was not able to cope.

hi eileemleyva yes policies can be very cruel and this one may have fforced the student into thinking there was no way out for her.I do wish the education system there could be more geared to help the students, not to make it impossible for them t get through their education, human kindness is needed for students to benefit from education so that they can be helped to pay for their college
student any way out.

Hatley, the authorities has a lot of overhauling to do, with regards the system and the budget. The students know the value of education, and am proud that most of are youth are taking their studies seriously.

How tragic! Now that it is too late, the powers that be will help her family.
