Why I hate DJs

Okay I know the title is a bit strong but I want to make some stuff clear before I start. I am NOT talking about the type of DJs who do remixes etc, although i'm not a fan of them either. I have no problem with that type of thing once it's creative. Also I understand sometimes it's the best way for people to make money, even if it's only a bit on the side. What I have a problem with is the amount of money that DJs for general parties get paid, I mean they are just a glorified CD/mp3 player. All they do is come with a setlist for a night, with a couple of exceptions for requests etc but anyone with any knowledge of listening to music and how to play music on a laptop can do that. I mean people don't need DJs at all these days, just find someone in the family who will do it for free or even for cheap. I know it costs a lot to buy equipment but it's nothing compared to the money and effort musicians have to have. I know having a band for a party is more expensive but that is another topic. It just bugs me that these people get paid so much for so little effort. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone but this is just my view on the subject.

I don't have a problem with DJ's but they are expensive! My sister's wedding is next week and she paid the DJ a TON of money. And he was on the cheaper side of things compared to others she found.

Excuse me...but what a bloody rip off. I mean fair enough if you do remixes and such but you are just playing songs, what the hell.

Maybe you do more but the people i've seen, the people who play for private functions, have just worked out a setlist for the night and then occassionally change it for requests.

Not all Dj's cost alot money to have at partys while this is true you can find someone that is super cheap but DJ's do know what music to play at what time. Like ur not gunna walk into a room and start playing heavy metal or somthing you have to build up to it haha and the same thing goes with a band you have to pay them alot dont you? Most DJ's now adays are just at clubs or big events like for instance Ultra Music Festival in Miami Florida its just one hugeeee party so i can understand why they get payed a ton of money. These local Dj's that dont really have a reputation? not so much.

It might happen depending on the party and I don't mind if it's a big party, they deserve it more then but I think here at least local djs have a good repuation for small functions etc.

well, my take is that if your are gonna pay for a DJ, it better be a REAL DJ. i want professional DJ quality music. if not, i guess i agree with you somewhat. on the other hand, it's been a great way for people to make an honest living. so, why knock it.

Yeah thats the thing, I find most DJs can't even set up their mic right. I mean that's very basic sound engineering. It's just silly. Also I have found plenty who aren't very friendly and really they should be. They are providing a service like anyone else. They do a fairly simple job and probably are gonna get abuse. I understand that but sure I have gotten some abuse/heckles when on stage. I don't let it affect how I put myself across.

Well, I could not fight with you about it. And maybe there are others, too that sees it your way. But I do think that not all people can have the talent to do remixing of music that will come out good. It is a special skill, too, don't you think? And although we can make use of music using our laptops and just put things together, still, I find that those done by the DJs can be better for as long as they really are certified DJs and not just acting to be DJs. I hope you don't get me wrong with my opinion. Peace!

Not at all and I think this is where people are missing my point. They create music at least, something creative. I'm talking about people who just play music (not their own) off a laptop and get paid big bucks for it.

well,it is based on the interest somebody like melody songs and others like rock songs.its nearly depend on the mood of the person.some people like to near djs when they travel to long distance.one day you may like djs when your in club.

I understand that and thats fair enough but I'm not a fan of clubs either it's a similar topic really. As I say I just think it's a shame that so many musicians get turned down from playing in pubs/clubs etc cause they can get a DJ for cheap. There really is a lot to this I hadn't thought about lol. I know i'm gonna be bias but it's not from a hating pop music point of view, it's more that people think DJs are so amazing, even the ones who just play songs off a laptop.

I think that is totally true but you do have to understand that some are trained. So maybe you got a bad one or you should search harder next time. But if not then you can just save money and do it yourself! I mean it cant be that hard right? But you shouldn't hate them, maybe just the prices! I hope this helps you because you never know, they could be really useful especial the ones at the parties i go to.

They really don't need to be trained. It is easy really. It's not so much about the money cause me personally, I could do it myself. I'm a musician and thats why it bugs me. They are a bit overpriced though for what they do and with regards to "getting a bad" how the hell is that even possible. I mean they would have to be a complete moron to not know how to play music on a laptop or create a playlist etc. I don't know maybe i'm naive and they are people who need to be trained to be able to do that.
